Abstract:This study investigated the dispersion stability of aqueous TiO2 nanofluids. The dispersion stability of binary nanofluids containing different concentrations of TiO2 nanoplatelets (TiNP) and TiO2 nanospheres (TiNS), either with or without dispersant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), was evaluated by sedimentation observations and measurements of the Turbiscan stability index (TSI) values. The results revealed that the mixing of TiNS and TiNP nanofluids remarkably improved the dispersion stability than those of the individual TiO2 nanoplatelets and nanospheres. Additionally, the binary nanofluids exhibited good dispersion stability up to 70% percentage of TiNP, after which the sedimentation increased. Moreover, the maximum total concentration of 0.8 wt.% TiO2 binary nanofluids exhibited greater dispersion stability than those of the individual nanoparticles, but further increase to 0.9 wt.% resulted in the loss of dispersion stability. Furthermore, the addition of dispersant SDS further improved the dispersion stability of the TiO2 nanofluids in case of the individual nanoparticles as well as that of binary nanofluids and retained good dispersion stability for increase in the maximum nanoparticle concentration from 0.9 to 4.0 wt.% of the TiO2 nanofluids. The improved dispersion stability of TiO2 nanofluids after combination with each other as well as with SDS offer potential applications for development of novel heat transport media and engineering research.
Dispersion Stability of Tio2-H2o Nanofluids Containing Mixed Nanotubes and Nanosheets

Abstract:Titanium dioxide nanotubes (TiNTs) and nanosheets (TiNSs) were synthesized according to the hydrothermal synthesis method. TiO2-H2O binary nanofluids were prepared by dispersing certain amount of both TiNTs and TiNSs in deionized water. Stabilities of nanofluids of different total concentrations were observed visually 1 hour later after preparation to classify stable and unstable nanofluids among nanofluids containing different ratios of TiNTs and TiNSs. Sedimentation heights variations with time were measured to indicate sedimentation velocities of nanoparticles of nanofluids of different concentrations as well. The preliminary results revealed that binary nanofluids stabilities could be improved effectively when concentration ratios of TiNTs to TiNSs are at suitable range compared with TiNTs or TiNSs alone, otherwise stabilities were deteriorated seriously. We consider the phenomenon is possibly concerned with electrostatic repulsion and depletion interactions in binary nanofluids.
Investigation of Dispersion for Nano-Tio2 in the Aqueous Medium

Abstract:Comblined the methods of physical and chemical dispersion,and taking water as solvent,the steady photocatalytic nano-TiO2 dispersed solution was fabricated by optimizing the dispersing technics.The dispersed effect of nano-TiO2 dispersed solution was characterized and evaluated by using the methods of precipitation,analysis of granularity by laser,and observation of TEM.The testing results show that the optimized dispersing technics include the dispersed solution composed of 1% nano-TiO2,1% polyacrylic acid + 0.5% TW-80,ultrasonic treating for 15 min,and high-speed cutting for 30 min before and after the treating;All the TiO2 particle diameter in the dispersed solution is less than 100 nm,with the mean particle diameter of about 50 nm,homogenously distributive.

Abstract:This paper studies the dispersion of nano TiO2 in organic phase with cyclohexane as organic solvent by sedimention test,spectrophotometer and TEM test,using ultrasound to break up the aggregation particles,discusses the influence of dispersant on dispersion stability and analyzes the action mechanism of dispersant.The results show that with suitable type and suitable amount of dispersant,the nano TiO2 dispersion system with good dispersion stability can be prepared.

Abstract:Dispersion of nano-TiN powder in aqueous media is investigated, which remains a big challenge during the preparation of Ti(C,N)-based nano-cermet. TEM images show that ultrasonic treatment for 30min is proved to be optimal, while excessive increase of ultrasonic treatment time to 1h does not result in better dispersion. XPS spectra reveal the existence of TiO2, which results in hydroxylated surface of the nano-TiN powder. Based on the surface properties of TiN particles, Tween 80, a non-ion polymer, is selected as the surfactant. FTIR analysis shows that Tween 80 is evidently absorbed on the surface of TiN particles. Zeta potential of the TiN suspension is influenced by pH value following the electrostatic stabilization mechanism. In the presence of Tween 80, the zeta potential values appear to be more negative with the shift of pHIEP from 3.6 to 3.1, and homogenous dispersion of nano-TiN is achieved by the stereo-hindrance effect.

Abstract:Dispersion stability has been extensively investigated because it significantly affects the properties of colloidal suspensions. However, for multi-component suspensions, the reported methods for stability evaluation are limited because several traditional methods are no longer appropriate, usually resulting in an unclear mechanism of dispersion stability. In this study, a novel nanocomposite was synthesized, exfoliated, and purified. The dispersion stability of binary suspensions comprising mixed and coupled titanium dioxide (TiO2) and alpha-zirconium phosphate (ZrP) particles were compared with those of pure TiO2 and ZrP suspensions by sedimentation observation, multiple light scattering, nuclear magnetic resonance, and dynamic light scattering measurements. The results obtained by the methods were consistent with one another, which indicated that the dispersion stability of the TiO2 suspension was significantly improved by composite particles compared to mixed particles. The underlying mechanism for the improvement was also discussed. The improvement in dispersion stability could be attributed to controlled particle aggregation.

Abstract:Nanometer TiO2 powder was prepared by sol-gel method in this paper.The influences of the concentration of the ratio of(BuO)4Ti and C2H5OH、the ratio of(BuO)4Ti and water、pH value and so on.The process conditions were selected by using the orthogonal design.Nanometer TiO2 was surface modificated with different surfactants and different ways.By means of particle size distribution measurements the effect of dispersant on the aggregation and dispersion stabilization of TiO2 powders in suspension was investigated.The effects of various factors on the dispersion stabilization of TiO2 suspension were explained using stabilization mechanism.

Abstract:Nano-TiO_2 concentrated slurries with low viscosity were prepared by special processes that could be well dispersed and reserved stably.The TiO_2 powders in the concentrated slurries mainly existed in the state of single particles according to the TEM observation.XRD patterns indicated that the TiO_2 still kept original crystal type and didn't bring impurities into the nano-TiO_2 concentrate slurries.FTIR proved that the dispersant tightly adsorbed at the surface of nano-TiO_2 by chemisorption,and induced the nano-particle to keep stable in the aqueous dispersion due to the electric repulsion force and steric effect.

Abstract:Nano-particles dispersion in water is difficult due to easily aggregating.The existence of these aggregate particles is usually called soft agglomeration.These particles of soft agglomeration can be further dispersed under the action of external forces.Therefore,it is significant to prepare the smaller size particles and the nano-particles of soft agglomeration existing in the slurry.In this paper,the preparation method of nano-TiO2 dispersing in slurry is investigated.And the dispersion medium,dispersion method,category and dosage of dispersant,dispersion time and temperature,dispersion medium pH are discussed respectively.The results show that stable nano-TiO2 dispersion slurry with particle size of about 300 nm should be prepared at 50～70 ℃,with pH = 7.7～10.8,SiO2 aerosol and nano-TiO2 powder = 0.06∶1,30 min ultrasonic dispersion.

Abstract:Nano TiC powders were dispersed in aqueous media. Effects of ultrasonic treatment and Tween 80 addition on dispersion of TiC powders were investigated. The results showed that ultrasonic treatment had a large effect on the dispersion of nano TiC powders, and 30min of ultrasonic treatment was necessary for fine dispersion from TEM images and particle size measurement. Tween 80 was selected as the dispersant. Sedimentation test indicated that 0.5vol.% was the optimum addition level of Tween 80 in TiC suspension. FTIR spectrum proved the adsorption of Tween 80 on the surface of nano TiC powders. XPS analysis revealed the existence of TiO2 on the TiC powder surface, which led to a hydroxylated surface during dispersion. In the presence of Tween 80 in the solution, zeta potential values became more negative. Both electrostatic stabilization and steric stabilization were deduced to be the main mechanisms for well dispersion of the nano TiC powders in aqueous media.
Study On The Dispersion Of Nanosized Tio2 In Aqueous Medium And Its Application In Pigment Coated Paper

Abstract:In order to improve the dispersion of nanosized TiO2 in aqueous medium, a series of chemical treatments have been conducted in air ambient to modify the surface of nanosized TiO2. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were introduced to characterize the primary size of nanosized TiO2. Rheometer was adopted to analyze the dispersion of nanosized TiO2 in aqueous medium. It was found that an extensive deaggregation effect with good efficiency and stability could be achieved when the surface of TiO2 particles was treated by aluminium-zirconium coupling agent with COOH group under an appropriate process condition. Thus the dispersion and the dispersion stability of TiO2 particles in aqueous medium could be significantly improved. The influence of nanosized TiO2 with good dispersion stability in aqueous medium on the properties of pigment coated paper was discussed. The results indicated that the properties of coated paper directly depended on the dispersion effect of nanosized TiO2. The properties of coated paper including brightness, gloss, smoothness and surface strength could be greatly improved when nanosized TiO2 treated with aluminium-zirconium coupling agent with COOH group was used in paper coatings. In addition, it was shown that with the increase of nanosized TiO2 amount in coated paper, the main properties of coated paper could be persistently ameliorated.

Abstract:The effects of dispersant on the dispersion of ultrafine TiO2 particles were investigated. The sedimen- tation height and the size distribution of the dispersed particles in aqueous solution were employed to characterize the particle dispersion. The experimental results show that (NaPO3)6, Na2SiO3 and C2H5OH are efficient dispersants for TiO2 particles in aqueous solution. The zeta potential of the particles in aqueous solution was measured to analyze the dispersion mechanism of different dispersants, since (NaPO3)6 and Na2SiO3 can significantly increase the absolute value of zeta potential of particles, and C2H5OH forms a solvent layer on the particle surface. Thus, satisfactory and stable dispersion of TiO2 particles in aqueous solution is obtained.

Abstract:The increasing applications of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles raise concerns about their potential environmental impacts. To investigate the fate and transport of TiO2 nanoparticles in aqueous suspension, ultrasonication is widely used for the dispersion of TiO2 nanoparticles in laboratory-scale studies. There is a pressing need for detailed information on the dispersion and stability of TiO2 nanoparticles. This study investigated the change of size, zeta potential, and pH of TiO2 nanoparticles aqueous suspension under different conditions of ultrasonication and concentrations. It was found that the hydrodynamic diameter of TiO2 nanoparticles decreased with increasing suspension concentration and remained stable for more than 1 hour after sonication, which is enough for experimental research. The pH decreased with increasing nanoparticles concentration. Ultrasonication remarkably improved zeta potential to be above 15 mV for all the samples. Therefore, 20 minutes of ultrasonication (180 W) is sufficient for the dispersion of this rutile TiO2 nanoparticles suspension, which can remain stable for more than 1 hour. However, the optimum sonication time for TiO2 nanoparticles dispersion is influenced by many factors, such as TiO2 nanoparticles concentration, solution chemistry, and sonicator parameters.
Dispersion Behavior of Nanosized TiN Powder in Water and Absolute Ethyl Alcohol

Abstract:By means of the measurement of particle size and z potential of particles, the dispersion of TiN nanoparticles and the effect of surfactants on the dispersion in water and absolute ethyl alcohol were investigated. It was revealed that pH value had a strong influence on the dispersibility for TiN nanoparticles in water, and at pH=8, dispersed result was optimal. With the increase of pH, the carried charge of particles was altered from positive to negative state, and IEP equaled 3.7. The dispersibility followed the mechanism of electrostatic stabilization. However, the pH value had a week effect on the dispersibility of TiN nanoparticles in absolute ethyl alcohol, in the whole range of pH, the particles carried positive charges. Solvent layer dominated the dispersibility. Surfactant polyoxyethylene do-decyl ether might be acted as dispersant in water, and polyethylene glycol as dispersant in water and absolute ethyl alcohol.

Abstract:The de-agglomeration and dispersion of nano-TiO2 powder is little reported, although nano-TiO2 powder has been widely used due to its unique optical properties. In this study, an agitator bead mill (MiniZETA 03E, Netzsch) accompanied with an ultrasonicator was employed to de-agglomerate the nano-TiO2 powder in butyl acetate, and the effects of ultrasonic pretreatment, dispersant dosage, agitation speed, solid content of TiO2 suspension, and bead diameter were systemically investigated. It is found that ultrasonic pretreatment leads to short grinding time to reach the limiting fineness, low specific energy input, and small limiting mean size. All other technical parameters have also some influence on the limiting fineness and grinding time. However, the former strongly depends on agitation speed while the latter on both agitation speed and dispersant dosage. A solvent-borne nano-TiO2 suspension with limiting mean size of 110 nm can be successfully result under the optimal technical conditions and showed excellent UV-shielding property and transparence when it was incorporated into polyester/melamine coatings.

Abstract:The sedimentation method is used to determine the effects of dispersant on the dispersion of ultrafine TiO2 particles in aqueous solution. The results show that SDS?TPB?sodium polyacrylate are effective dispersants for TiO2 particles in aqueous solution. The dispersion mechanism is analysed by testing Zeta potential and the viscosity of the suspensions. SDS?TPB?sodium polyacrylate can significantly increase the absolute value of Zeta potential, and ethylene glycol can form a good solvent layer on the particle surfaces. This lead to the enhancement of the stability of the TiO2 suspensions.

Abstract:With the increased manufacture and use of nanoparticles there has been increasing concern about the potential toxicity of nanoparticles. The aim of this study is to establish a practical-method to disperse TiO(2)nanoparticles for biological studies. To address this matter a variety. of different approaches for suspension of nanoparticles have been conducted. The quality of the dispersion of nanoparticles is dependent on the medium used to suspend them, and this then will most likely affect. the biological outcomes. TiO2 (rutile/anatase) dispersions were prepared in distilled water followed by treatment with different ultrasound energies and various dispersion stabilizers, such as 1.0% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), 0.5% hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose K4M (HPMC MM), fetal bovine serum (FBS), and 2.5% bovine serum albumin (BSA). The average size of dispersed TiO2 (rutile/anatase) nanoparticles was measured by dynamic light scattering. Also; nanoparticle size was analyzed by transmission, electron microscopy (TEM). Agglomeration and sedimentation of TiO2 (rutile/anatase) nanoparticles in dispersion was monitored by adsorption value detection and digital. photography. The biological. hazard of dispersion stabilizers was measured. using MTT assay. The optimal sequence for preparation of TiO2 (rutile/anatase) nanoparticles dispersion was first to vibrate the nanoparticles by vortex and disperse particles by ultrasonic vibration in distilled water, then to add dispersion stabilizers to the dispersion and finally to sonicate the nanoparticles in dispersion. TiO2 (rutile/anatase) nanoparticles was. disaggregated sufficiently with a specific ultrasound energy of 33 W and sonication time for 10 min. The formation of coarse TiO2 (rutile/anatase) agglomerates in distilled water was prevented by addition of 1.0% CMC, 0.5% HPMC K4M, FBS and 2.5% BSA. For the characteristic of benefit for cell growth, FBS is the most suitable stabilizer for preparation of TiO2 (rutile/anatase) particle dispersion and subsequent investigation of the in vivo and in vitro behavior of nanoparticles. This optimized dispersion method is effective and practicable to prepare a stable dispersion of TiO2 (rutile/anatase) nanoparticles for up to at least 120 h.

Abstract:The effect of ultrasonic and pH value on the dispersion and stabilization process of TiO2/H2O suspension system werediscussed.The degradation ratio of HCHO was used as the token of dispersion of the system.The results showed that lasting ultra-sonic vibration was the decisive effect to the dispersion of system and the dispersion would experience three phases of primary-dis-persion,counter-dispersion and fully-dispersion.The results also proved that pH value would greatly affect the stability of theTiO2/H2O suspension system.Its stability was improved with the increasing of pHvalue.The dispersed liquid could keep stably for7 days without sedimentation and possessed the optical photo-catalytic activity at pH=8.5.It was found that the degradation ratioof HCHO was upward of97% with the dispersed liquid of1% TiO2,which could be relatively steady in activity after reused for sev-eral times.

Abstract:Via properly changing concentration of titanium precursor, tuning the residence time and controlling of the temperature field in the reaction region, nanocrystalline TiO2 powders were synthesized by the diffusion flame method with well-dispersed behavior and controlled crystal structures and particles size. The XPS and IR results showed that there existed high hydration and oxygen vacancies on the surface of the as-prepared nanocrystalline TiO2 powders, which played a dominant role in controlling polymorph fraction by altering the critical particles size of phase transition. The thermodynamics analysis demonstrated that the high hydration on TiO2 surface can produce the lattice contraction, which effectively stabilizes anatase phase. However, the oxygen vacancies on TiO2 surface can decrease activation energy of phase transition of anatase to rutile, which facilitates the phase transformation.

Abstract:Automobile end gas pollution attracts more and more attention.In this paper,a kind of photocatalysis material that made of styrene-acrylic latex,nano titanium dioxide and surfactant was used in means of transportation,by which the harmful automobile end gas can be degraded.The effects of method,kinds of dispersant,concentration of dispersant and time on dispersibility were studied.Nano TiO_2 grains were observed by TEM and theory of dispersion was discussed.Results showed that reasonable way of dispersion and surfactant can improve the dispersibility of nano TiO_2 and the stability of TiO_2 grain,at the same time enhance the ability of photocatalysis on automobile end gas effectively.
