Abstract:ZnO-TiO2 composites (Z@T and T@Z) were prepared by two processes. Z@T was to prepare ZnO particles first, and then TiO2 particles were prepared on the surface of ZnO; T@Z, in contrast, was to prepare TiO2 first and then ZnO. The samples were characterized by TG-DSC, XRD, SEM, EDS, UV-Vis, and PL spectra to explore the effects of synthesis process on the thermal effect, crystal structure, surface composition, energy band gap, recombination rate of photogenerated carriers, and photocatalytic performance of samples calcined at different temperatures. T@Z composites have an excellent crystal structure and effectively inhibit the recombination of photogenerated carriers. The T@Z prepared at 600 degrees C exhibited higher photocatalytic performance of methyl orange than that of ZnO, TiO2, and Z@T composites under UV light irradiation, which was about twice as large as that of Z@T calcined at 600 degrees C mainly due to the fact that T@Z composites possess rod and rice-like morphologies, high light absorption capability and low recombination rate of photogenerated carriers.
