Component analysis on essential oils from three citrus species peels by GC-MS

Abstract:The essential oils from peels of three citrus (Lime,Sweet Orange,Lemon) were extracted by stream distillation and analyzed by GC-MS.The results showed that there were 68,68 and 58 aromatic components in their fruit,representing 98.69%,99.53% and 99.58% of the total peak area,respectively.It was also found that 32 constituents were found common in these 3 citrus species.And Lime,Sweet Orange,Lemon had 20,16 and 15 unique components,respectively.Differences in the composition of aroma components from these 3 citrus peel oils contributed to the aroma variety of each species.The main compounds to characteristic aroma of Lime were linalool,3-carene,.beta.-pinene.The main characteristic aroma compounds of Sweet Orange were naphthalene,1,2,3,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-1,8a-dimethyl-7-(1-methylethenyl)-,[1R-(1.alpha.,7.beta.,8a.alpha.)]-,and the Lemon’s were 3-carene,.beta.-phellandrene,geraniol.
