Methods to Extract Spin Transfer in DIS at HERMES

Abstract:To measure the longitudinal spin transfer to Λ produced in polarized e-p deep inelastic scattering(DIS) at HERMES spectrometer on HERA in DESY,a normalization method(NM) was established to cancel the acceptance correction,which has a great effect on the analysis of the polarization of Λ hyperons.The method,based on two opposite polarized positron beam data sets,can extract the spin transfer by canceling the acceptance correction with a dividing algorithm.Furthermore,another new method named helicity balance method(HBM) was improved based on two special opposite polarized positron beam data sets.Both methods are proved to be correct through the analysis of Monte Carlo(MC) data.As a comparison,the MC method is used to extract the spin transfer at the same time.
