Abstract:A family of skew information quantities is obtained, in which the well-known Wigner-Yanase skew information and quantum Fisher information stand as special cases. A transparent proof of convexity of the generalized skew information is given, implying a simple proof of the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson conjecture. We find in this work an exact skew information inequality for qubit system, which may regard as the information counterpart of the uncertainty relation. A lower bound for generalized skew information of a pair of incompatible observables in arbitrary dimension and also the upper bound for qubit system are achieved.

Abstract:The variance of quantum channels involving a mixed state gives a hybrid of classical and quantum uncertainties. We seek certain decomposition of variance into classical and quantum parts in terms of the Wigner-Yanase skew information. Generalizing the uncertainty relations for quantum observables to quantum channels, we introduce a new quantity with better quantum mechanical nature to describe the uncertainty relations for quantum channels. We derive several uncertainty relations for quantum channels via variances and the Wigner-Yanase skew information.

Abstract:Nonclassical correlation is an important concept in quantum information theory, referring to a special type of correlation that exists between quantum systems, which surpasses the scope of classical physics. In this paper, we introduce the concept of a family of information with important properties, namely the generalized Wigner-Yanase skew information, of which the famous quantum Fisher information and Wigner-Yanase skew information are special cases.We classify the local observables in the generalized Wigner-Yanase skew information into two categories (i.e., orthonormal bases and a Hermitian operator with a fixed nondegenerate spectrum), and based on this, we propose two different forms of indicators to quantify nonclassical correlations of bipartite quantum states. We have not only investigated some important properties of these two kinds of indicators but also illustrated through specific examples that they can indeed capture some nonclassical correlations. Furthermore, we find that these two types of indicators reduce to entanglement measure for bipartite pure states. Specifically, we also derive the relationship between these two indicators and the entanglement measure $I$-concurrence.

Abstract:Quantum and classical pairwise correlations in two typical collective spin systems (i.e., the Dicke model and the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model) are discussed. These correlations in the thermodynamical limit are obtained analytically and in a finite-size system are calculated numerically. Large-size scaling behavior for the quantum discord itself is observed, which has never been reported in another critical system. A logarithmic diverging behavior for the first derivative of the quantum discord is also found in both models, which might be universal in the second-order quantum phase transition. It is suggested that the pronounced maximum or minimum of first derivative of quantum discord signifies the critical point. Comparisons between the quantum discord and the scaled concurrence are performed. It is shown that the quantum discord is very small in one phase and robust in the other phase, while the scaled concurrence shows maximum at the critical point and decays rapidly when away from the the critical point.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters A, Volume 39, Issue 06, 28 February 2024. Quantum coherence is an important feature that distinguishes quantum mechanics from classical physics. In this paper, we study the coherence of a quantum state with respect to a quantum channel, and introduce a coherence measure in terms of the generalized Wigner–Yanase–Dyson skew information. The basic properties and operational significance of the measure are expounded in detail, which shows that it is indeed a veritable quantity and satisfies many desirable conditions intuitively required for the coherence measures. We illustrate the significance of characterizing channels from the coherence perspective through some examples. Finally, we consider the average coherence of a state based on the generalized Wigner–Yanase–Dyson skew information with respect to any complete mutually unbiased bases in prime power dimensional systems, as well as with respect to all orthonormal bases, and show that these two averages are equivalent since they both can be seen as the coherence of the quantum state with respect to the depolarizing quantum channel.

Abstract:Quantum coherence and quantum correlations are important components of quantum information theory, which play important roles in quantum information processing. In this paper, we quantify correlations from coherence. The correlations relative to channels via metric-adjusted skew information are put forward. The corresponding results are suitable for special channels, such as positive operator-valued measurements (POVMs), projection measurements and von Neumann measurements. In addition, we discuss the dynamics of quantum correlations in the Bell-diagonal state relative to some classical channels via metric-adjusted skew information. The typical two are the Werner state and the isotropic state. We find that some separable states in entanglement resources theory possess correlations. It also shows quantum channels will disturb quantum states and have a great influence on the correlations. The correlations relative to different channels via different versions of metric-adjusted skew information have their advantages. This has inspired one to study the problem of the existence and action of various quantum correlations in quantum theory to be easily applied to experiments.

Abstract:Quantum correlation with a novel definition is presented for an arbitrary bipartite quantum state in terms of the skew information of the complete set of rank-one orthogonal projectors. This definition not only inherits the good properties of skew information including the contractivity, but also shows a powerful analytic computability for a large range of states. In addition, the measure for a general state can be easily numerically obtained by the well-developed technique of the approximate joint diagonalization. As a comparison, we give both the analytic and the numerical quantum correlation for many high-dimensional states. The relation between our measure and quantum metrology is also analyzed.

Abstract:We present the uncertainty relations in terms of the symmetrized ρ-absolute variance, which generalizes the uncertainty relations for arbitrary operators (not necessarily Hermitian) to quantum channels.By employing the quantity |Uρ|(Φ) proposed by Zhang et al. (2023 Quantum Inf. Process. 22, 456), we also establish tighter uncertainty relations for quantum channels by using the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. Detailed examples are provided to illustrate the tightness of our results.

Abstract:We report a refinement of Robertson-Schroedinger uncertainty relation via Wigner-Yanase skew information. Besides the well known quantum uncertainty arising from the noncommutativity of observables, there is classical uncertainty arising from the mixedness of the states that is quantified by the difference between the variance and the skew information. Our refined uncertainty relation for canonical observables is saturated by all the Gaussian states, pure or mixed, and thus provides an alternative measure for the non-Gaussianity of quantum states. Generalizations to the case of metric adjusted skew information are presented, unifying and refining most of previous results.
Signature of Topological Quantum Phase Transitions Via Wigner-Yanase Skew Information

Abstract:We apply the Wigner-Yanase skew information approach to analyze two typical models that exhibit a topological quantum phase transition. Based on the exact solutions of the ground states, the Wigner-Yanase skew information between two nearest sites for each of the two models is obtained. For the one-dimensional Kitaev chain model, the first-order derivative of the Wigner-Yanase skew information is non-analytical around the critical point. The scaling behavior and the universality are verified numerically. In particular, the skew information can also detect the factorization transition in such a model. For the two-dimensional Kitaev honeycomb model, the first-order derivative of the Wigner-Yanase skew information shows some singularities at the critical points where the system transits from the gapless phase to the gapped one. Our results suggest that the Wigner-Yanase skew information can serve as a good indicator of the topological phase transitions in these models and shed considerable light on the relationships between topological quantum phase transition and information theory. Abstract:In this work, we derive state-dependent uncertainty relations (uncertainty equalities) in which commutators of incompatible operators (not necessarily Hermitian) are explicitly present and state-independent uncertainty relations based on the Wigner-Yanase (-Dyson) skew information. We derive uncertainty equality based on standard deviation for incompatible operators with mixed states, a gereralization of previous works in which only pure states were considered. We show that for pure states, the Wigner-Yanase skew information based state-independent uncertainty relations become standard deviation based state-independent uncertainty relations which turned out to be tighter uncertainty relations for some cases than the ones given in previous works, and we generalize the previous works for arbitrary operators. As the Wigner-Yanase skew information of a quantum channel can be considered as a measure of quantum coherence of a density operator with respect to that channel, we show that there exists a state-independent uncertainty relation for the coherence measures of the density operator with respect to a collection of different channels. We show that state-dependent and state-independent uncertainty relations based on a more general version of skew information called generalized skew information which includes the Wigner-Yanase (-Dyson) skew information and the Fisher information as special cases hold. In qubits, we derive tighter state-independent uncertainty inequalities for different form of generalized skew informations and standard deviations, and state-independent uncertainty equalities involving generalized skew informations and standard deviations of spin operators along three orthogonal directions. Finally, we provide a scheme to determine the Wigner-Yanase (-Dyson) skew information of an unknown observable which can be performed in experiment using the notion of weak values.

Abstract:The Wigner-Yanase skew information was proposed to quantify the information contained in quantum states with respect to a conserved additive quantity, and it was later extended to the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew informations. Recently, the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew informations have been recognized as valid resource measures for the resource theory of asymmetry, and their properties have been investigated from a resource-theoretic perspective. The Wigner-Yanse-Dyson skew informations have been further generalized to a class called metric-adjusted skew informations, and this general family of skew informations have also been found to be valid asymmetry monotones. Here, we analyze this general family of the skew informations from an operational point of view by utilizing the fact that they are valid asymmetry resource monotones. We show that such an approach allows for clear physical meanings as well as simple proofs of some of the basic properties of the skew informations. Notably, we constructively prove that any type of skew information cannot be superadditive, where the violation of the superadditivity had been only known for a specific class of skew informations with numerical counterexamples. We further show a weaker version of superadditivity relation applicable to the general class of the skew informations, which proves a conjecture made for the Wigner-Yanase skew information as a special case. We finally discuss an application of our results for a situation where quantum clocks are distributed to multiple parties.

Several families of entanglement criteria for multipartite quantum systems based on generalized Wigner-Yanase skew information and variance

Abstract:Quantum entanglement plays a critical role in many quantum applications, but detecting entanglement, especially in multipartite or high-dimensional quantum systems, remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose several families of entanglement criteria for detecting entanglement in multipartite or high-dimensional quantum states by the generalized Wigner-Yanase skew information $I^s(\rho,X)$ for $-1\leq s\leq0$ and variance. We also reveal a complementary character between the criteria based on the generalized Wigner-Yanase skew information and an alternative one based on variance through specific examples. We illustrate the merits of these criteria and show that the combination of the entanglement criteria has a stronger detection capability, as it is capable of detecting entangled states that remain unrecognized by other criteria.
