Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

Abstract:Let X={X(t):t∈RN} be a Gaussian random field with values in Rd and let E⊆RN be a Borel set. We determine the packing dimension of the image set X(E) in terms of the packing dimension profiles in the canonical metric ρ of X, which are extensions of the packing dimension profiles of Falconer and Howroyd (1997) and the box-counting dimension profiles of Howroyd (2001).

Abstract:Let X = X ( t ), t ∈ ℝ N be a Gaussian random field with values in ℝ d defined by (1) X(t) = (X_1 (t),...,X_d (t)),∀ t ∈ℝ^N . . The properties of space and time anisotropy of X and their connections to uniform Hausdorff dimension results are discussed. It is shown that in general the uniform Hausdorff dimension result does not hold for the image sets of a space-anisotropic Gaussian random field X . When X is an ( N , d )-Gaussian random field as in (1), where X 1 ,..., X d are independent copies of a real valued, centered Gaussian random field X 0 which is anisotropic in the time variable. We establish uniform Hausdorff dimension results for the image sets of X . These results extend the corresponding results on one-dimensional Brownian motion, fractional Brownian motion and the Brownian sheet.

Abstract:Let $X=\{X(t),t\in\mathbb{R}^N\}$ be a random field with values in $\mathbb{R}^d$. For any finite Borel measure $\mu$ and analytic set $E\subset\mathbb{R}^N$, the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the image measure $\mu_X$ and image set $X(E)$ are determined under certain mild conditions. These results are applicable to Gaussian random fields, self-similar stable random fields with stationary increments, real harmonizable fractional Lévy fields and the Rosenblatt process.

Abstract:Let X={X(t),t∈RN} be a Gaussian random field with values in Rd defined by X(t)=(X1(t),…,Xd(t)),∀t∈RN, where X1,…,Xd are independent copies of a centered Gaussian random field X0. Under certain general conditions, Xiao [Xiao, Y., 2007. Strong local nondeterminism and the sample path properties of Gaussian random fields. In: Lai, Tze Leung, Shao, Qiman, Qian, Lianfen (Eds.), Asymptotic Theory in Probability and Statistics with Applications. Higher Education Press, Beijing, pp. 136–176] defined an upper index α∗ and a lower index α∗ for X0 and showed that the Hausdorff dimensions of the range X([0,1]N) and graph GrX([0,1]N) are determined by the upper index α∗. In this paper, we prove that the packing dimensions of X([0,1]N) and GrX([0,1]N) are determined by the lower index α∗ of X0. Namely, dimPX([0,1]N)=min{d,Nα∗},a.s. and dimPGrX([0,1]N)=min{Nα∗,N+(1−α∗)d},a.s. This verifies a conjecture of Xiao in the above-cited reference. Our method is based on the potential-theoretic approach to packing dimension due to Falconer and Howroyd [Falconer, K.J., Howroyd, J.D., 1997. Packing dimensions for projections and dimension profiles. Math. Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 121, 269–286].

In this paper, the Hausdorff dimension of E(x, T) is established. We get that for any T is an element of R, almost every x is an element of R-d, dim E(x, T) = N - dalpha with probability one under the condition N >dalpha.

Abstract:An N-parameter Brownian sheet in Rd maps a non-random compact set F in R-+(N) to the random compact set B(F) in Rd. We prove two results on the image-set B(F):(1) It has positive d-dimensional Lebesgue measure if and only if F has positive (d)/(2)-dimensional capacity. This generalizes greatly the earlier works of J. Hawkes (1977), J.-P. Kahane (1985), and Khoshnevisan (1999).(2) If dim(H) F > (d)/(2), then with probability one, we can find a finite number of points zeta(1),...,zeta(m). Rd such that for any rotation matrix. that leaves F in RN +, one of the zeta(i)'s is interior to B(theta F). In particular, B(F) has interior-points a.s. This veri. es a conjecture of T. S. Mountford (1989).This paper contains two novel ideas: To prove (1), we introduce and analyze a family of bridged sheets. Item ( 2) is proved by developing a notion of "sectorial local-non-determinism (LND)." Both ideas may be of independent interest.We showcase sectorial LND further by exhibiting some arithmetic properties of standard Brownian motion; this completes the work initiated by Mountford (1988).

Abstract:Let be a centered space-time anisotropic Gaussian random field in with stationary increments, where the components are independent but distributed differently. Under certain conditions, we not only give the Hausdorff dimension of the graph sets of X in the asymmetric metric in the recurrent case, but also determine the exact Hausdorff measure functions of the graph sets of X in the transient and recurrent cases, respectively. Moreover, we establish a uniform Hausdorff dimension result for the image sets of X . Our results extend the corresponding results on fractional Brownian motion and space or time anisotropic Gaussian random fields.

Abstract:In order to compute the packing dimension of orthogonal projections Falconer and Howroyd [3] have introduced a family of packing dimension profiles Dim(s) that are parametrized by real numbers s > 0. Subsequently, Howroyd [5] introduced alternate s-dimensional packing dimension profiles P-dim, by using Caratheodory-type packing measures, and proved, among many other things, that P-dim(s) E = Dim(s) E for all integers s > 0 and all analytic sets E subset of R-N. The aim of this paper is to prove that P-dim(s) E = Dim(s) E for all real numbers s > 0 and analytic sets E subset of R-N. This answers a question of Howroyd [5, p. 159]. Our proof hinges on establishing a new property of fractional Brownian motion.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove uniform Hausdorff and packing dimension results for the images of a large family of Markov processes. The main tools are the two covering principles in Xiao (In Fractal Geometry and Applications: A Jubilee of Benoit Mandelbrot, Part 2 (2004) 261-338 Amer. Math. Soc.). As applications, uniform Hausdorff and packing dimension results for certain classes of Levy processes, stable jump diffusions and non-symmetric stable-type processes are obtained.
