Abstract:Three common mathematic models are always employed to predict the growth of regional or urban population,including exponential function(Malthus model),inverse hyperbolic function(Keyfitz model),and logistic function(Verhulst model).All the three models originate from logistic equation,but under different conditions.The logic relations and distinctions between the three models are expounded and a new model used for population predict is derived from the same mathematic source in the form:1/P(t)=1/P~1-blnt,which in fact defines an 'inverse S-shaped curve'.The Keyfitz model turns out to be the "approximator" of the inverse S-function advanced by the author.In addition,a new model based on the hyperbola with power is given as 1/P(t)=1/P_1-b~α,where α is a parameter.Three sets of data and the corresponding analytical results are taken as examples to illustrate the models and while showing how to use the prediction methods correctly.

Abstract:Under the environment with the increasing,market competition, because of the intangible and various uncertain factors, the error of the common.forecast model is greater. In the paper, a new method for the second forecasting based on the combined models (SFBCM) is presented. In the method, a few forecast results of some common forecast models are used for learning and training the BP network, the other results of some common forecast models are used for the second forecasting by the trained BP network. The arithmetic of the method and,its. process are researched based on the comparisons of some general forecast models, software is developed. The example of forecasting the output of car in China and the, application in an enterprise are showed. The Second Forecast Based on the Combined Models is a feasible method for the market forecast and decision-making when the market changes greatly.

Abstract:The logistic or S-shaped curve of growth is one of the few universal laws in biology. It is certain that there exist specific genes affecting growth curves, but, due to a lack of statistical models, it is unclear how these genes cause phenotypic differentiation in growth and developmental trajectories. In this paper we present a statistical model for detecting major genes responsible for growth trajectories. This model is incorporated with pervasive logistic growth curves under the maximum likelihood framework and, thus, is expected to improve over previous models in both parameter estimation and inference. The power of this model is demonstrated by an example using forest tree data, in which evidence of major genes affecting stem growth processes is successfully detected. The implications for this model and its extensions are discussed.
Word-based and Character-Based Word Segmentation Models: Comparison and Combination

Abstract:We present a theoretical and empirical comparative analysis of the two dominant categories of approaches in Chinese word segmentation: word-based models and character-based models. We show that, in spite of similar performance overall, the two models produce different distribution of segmentation errors, in a way that can be explained by theoretical properties of the two models. The analysis is further exploited to improve segmentation accuracy by integrating a word-based segmenter and a character-based segmenter. A Bootstrap Aggregating model is proposed. By letting multiple segmenters vote, our model improves segmentation consistently on the four different data sets from the second SIGHAN bakeoff.
Estimation and Inference for High-dimensional Multi-response Growth Curve Model

Abstract:A growth curve model (GCM) aims to characterize how an outcome variable evolves, develops and grows as a function of time, along with other predictors. It provides a particularly useful framework to model growth trend in longitudinal data. However, the estimation and inference of GCM with a large number of response variables faces numerous challenges, and remains underdeveloped. In this article, we study the high-dimensional multivariate-response linear GCM, and develop the corresponding estimation and inference procedures. Our proposal is far from a straightforward extension, and involves several innovative components. Specifically, we introduce a Kronecker product structure, which allows us to effectively decompose a very large covariance matrix, and to pool the correlated samples to improve the estimation accuracy. We devise a highly non-trivial multi-step estimation approach to estimate the individual covariance components separately and effectively. We also develop rigorous statistical inference procedures to test both the global effects and the individual effects, and establish the size and power properties, as well as the proper false discovery control. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the new method through both intensive simulations, and the analysis of a longitudinal neuroimaging data for Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract:The prediction issue of the SSE Composite Index is an underlying concern for many investors. By applying artificial intelligence and computer simulation to predicate the SSE Composite Index with certain accuracy, has double meanings in aspect of theory and practice. This research selects the indicator, by including the data refers to both the technical index and the fundamentals. Since there is less researches use the data refers to the fundamentals to make prediction, this job will play an important role in obtaining the more accurate prediction; furthermore, it realizes the model’s combination prediction mechanism, by establishing three prediction model. By comparing analysis the predicted and the actual results of the model, as well as the simulation analysis based on Agent, the findings are: the accurate rate of “single model”, proposed prediction model is around 60%, it is consistent with the existing literatures, while the accurate rate of “combination model” in prediction is 75%, it reflects the advantage of the combination model.

Abstract:Many Telecom Service companies need to forecast mobile user growth demand because their lead-time to supply is longer than their customers will typically wait for products. A logistic growth curve is an sigmoid curve that can be used to forecast this growth trends, so these companies adopt forecasted data for production planning. In order to construct logistic growth curve model, three phase sum method can be employed. Three phase sum method means that the whole time sequence is divided into three equal time phase, the parameters are computed according to the sum of the observed values of three time phase. But the prediction accuracy of this method is limited, the logistic curve model which can be transformed, employ ordinary least-squares principle to simply formula. The 0.618 optimal seeking method is applied to optimize Model, which adjusts key parameters of logistic growth curve for the purpose of minimizing the sum of squared residuals and better fitting actual data. The 0.618 optimal seeking method can effectively reduce the search time and increase the efficiency of fitting the data. Although the logistic model establishment for Postal and Telecommunication Services is demonstrated in this paper, this model can be applied in many fields. Example analysis for specifying these models based on the use of the logistic curve model are also provided.

Abstract:Model matching algorithm is commonly applied to the system of image matching and the system of video tracking.It analyzed in detail the efficiencies through the two methods of VS2010 and System Generator are compared.The simulation results show that the model matching algorithm based on System Generator is more efficient with shorter time.

Abstract:Modelling and predicting online sales based on the publicly available data from the online user community are important. In order to improve the accuracy of existing predicting model, we propose a weighted related networks approach to account for the contributions from related products in the same brand (supporting) and category (competing), plus other factors including the claimed past purchases by the user members, the number of reviewers and the relative prices. Three scenarios of such an approach are implemented, compared and tested with a baseline model that is developed based on a traditional approach in literature. The results show that categorical relationship impacts the online sales more significantly in general.

Abstract:User behavior analysis and prediction has been widely applied in personalized search, advertising precise delivery and other personalized services. It is a core problem how to evaluate the performance of prediction models or algorithms. The most used off-line experiment is a simple and convenient evaluation strategy. However, the existing assessment measures are most based on arithmetic average value theory, such as precision, recall, F measure, mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE) etc. These approaches have two drawbacks. First, they cannot depict the prediction performance within a more fine-grained view and they only provide one average value to compare different algorithms' performances. Second, they are not reasonable if the evaluation results are not follow normal distribution. In this paper, according to analyze a mass of prediction evaluation results, we find that some performance evaluation results follow approximate power low distribution but not normal distribution. Therefore, the paper proposes a cumulative probability distribution model to evaluate the performance of prediction algorithms. The model first calculates the probability of each evaluation results. And then, it depicts the cumulative probability distribution function. Moreover, we further present an evaluation expectation value (EEV) to represent the overall performance of the prediction algorithms. Experiments on two real data sets show that the proposed model can provide deeper and more accurate assessment results.
A Comparative Study on the Results of College English Grade 4 Based on Multi-model Prediction

Abstract:Predictive analytics improves educational outcomes by offering insights into student performance and influencing targeted interventions. In this work, we undertake a detailed comparative analysis of predictive models for projecting College English Grade 4 exam results, to contribute to the improvement of educational predictive analytics. We compare the predicted accuracy and interpretability of several modeling approaches, including ensemble learning methods like Random Forests, interpretable models like Decision Trees, and Support Vector Machines (SVM). We evaluate each model's performance using important metrics such as Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and R-squared (R2) coefficients. Our results show that Random Forests have greater prediction accuracy, beating other models in terms of MSE, RMSE, and MAE. Despite its slightly lower R2 coefficients, Decision Trees perform competitively and provide useful insights into crucial variables. In contrast, SVM shows limitations in prediction accuracy for College English Grade 4 exam results. We highlight the relevance of these findings for educators and administrators, emphasizing the need to make educated decisions when selecting predictive models and implementing targeted interventions to promote student achievement. This work advances the field of educational predictive analytics by giving empirical evidence for the efficacy of various modeling methodologies and emphasizing the importance of model interpretability in understanding student performance determinants. More study is needed to improve predictive analytics methods and enhance their applicability in educational settings.

Abstract:Point spreads betting based on the approximation of score difference is prevalent within the NBA community. In this work, the primary objective is to construct a multidimensional linear model that incorporates both game and player information to forecast the score difference of NBA basketball games. We first considered the SHT Model that contains merely game information, including team intrinsic Strength, Home court advantage, and Tiredness due to successive games. The model is adequately convincing since the estimates are legitimate in terms of their signs and magnitudes. We further examined the influence of the absence of players on forecasting the score difference and applied the respective salary as a weighting factor to add variability into the model. The prediction results indicate that the SHT Model has the highest accuracy in predicting score difference, which will be adopted as our final model. Tests on different seasons demonstrate the final model's stability and practice ability.

Abstract:Summary Response models used in marketing are not always constructed for later marketing optimisation, which often results in unsatisfactory results in target selection for future marketing activities. To solve this problem, we develop a new binary response model and a new marketing target selection method. The proposed model can predict multiple propensity scores per customer through customer‐specific propensity score distributions, which is not possible with existing response models, filling a gap in the literature. The target selection method can determine the best propensity scores from those predicted by the proposed model and use them to select customers for further marketing activities. Our simulation results and application to real marketing data confirm that the performance of the proposed model in target selection is significantly better than that of the existing models, including some popular machine learning methods, which indicate that our method can be very useful in practice.

Abstract:Most people who invest in stock markets want to be rich, thus, many technical methods have been created to beat the market. If one knows the predictability of the price series in different markets, it would be easier for him/her to make the technical analysis, at least to some extent. Here we use one of the most basic sold-and-bought trading strategies to establish the profit landscape, and then calculate the parameters to characterize the strength of predictability. According to the analysis of scaling of the profit landscape, we find that the Chinese individual stocks are harder to predict than US ones, and the individual stocks are harder to predict than indexes in both Chinese stock market and US stock market. Since the Chinese (US) stock market is a representative of emerging (developed) markets, our comparative study on the markets of these two countries is of potential value not only for conducting technical analysis, but also for understanding physical mechanisms of different kinds of markets in terms of scaling.
Comparative Analysis on Growth Curve Fitting of Three Types of Goose

Abstract:In this study,the growth curves of wanxi white goose,Huoyan goose and shitou goosefrom 0 to 13 weeks old were analyzed and four nonlinear curves of Logistic,Von bertalanffy,gompertz and multinomial model were used to fit the growth curve.The results showed that the growth curves were appropriately fitted with four models(R2 0.99).and Chi-square test indicated that the gompertz model had the best effect on fitting with the growth curves of Wanxi White goose and Huoyan goose(χ2χ2 0.05=22.36,df=13).Conversely,the effect of four models for shitou goose was not ideal.In general,the gompertz model was better in fitting with the growth curves in goose.Analyzing the fitting parameters of the best model,we found growth inflexion of Huoyan goose(Small goose) was the earliest,while shitou goose(Large goose) was the latest.

Abstract:The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Healthy Birth, Growth and Development knowledge integration project aims to improve the overall health and well-being of children across the world. The project aims to integrate information from multiple child growth studies to allow health professionals and policy makers to make informed decisions about interventions in lower and middle income countries. To achieve this goal, we must first understand the conditions that impact on the growth and development of children, and this requires sensible models for characterising different growth patterns. The contribution of this paper is to provide a quantitative comparison of the predictive abilities of various statistical growth modelling techniques based on a novel leave-one-out validation approach. The majority of existing studies have used raw growth data for modelling, but we show that fitting models to standardised data provide more accurate estimation and prediction. Our work is illustrated with an example from a study into child development in a middle income country in South America.

Abstract:Availability of large-scale network data for real systems is enabling mathematical and computational methods to systematically model the formation of the networks. Various growth models are proposed to reproduce the structures of the real-world networks. Evaluating how well a model fits the network data is an outstanding challenge, since the structures of networks that have tens of thousands of vertices and edges are highly complex. We here use a trace curve, which is produced by a breadth-first search processing on the network, to characterize the structure of network. Because the trace curve is shaped by both the local and global structure of the network, it can be used to tell the subtle difference between networks. By comparing the curves of model network and real network data, we evaluate the fit of model to the data. The evaluation of fit subsequently can be used to estimate the growth parameters for real network, which are key factors affecting the growth of real system. We illustrate the power of this approach by estimating growth parameters for the Drosophila melanogaster protein interaction network. © 2010 IEEE.
Iterative XGBoost Algorithm and Application on Modeling the Cognitive Laws of Chinese Characters Based on Psychological Cognitive Feature Extraction

Abstract:Chinese character learning is an important subject in primary school teaching. The survey shows that students have different degrees of difficulty in recognizing different Chinese characters. Firstly, according to the laws of pedagogy and students' cognitive psychology, this paper extracted some characteristics of Chinese characters as the independent variables of the study. Secondly, students were tested for Chinese character cognition, and the average score of each Chinese character was calculated to identify the difficulty of Chinese characters, which was used as the dependent variable of the study. Then, the cognitive difficulty classification problem of Chinese characters was modeled as a binary classification problem in machine learning, and an iterative XGBoost algorithm is proposed to complete the modeling task. When the classification model was applied to the test data set, the accuracy rate, recall rate and F1 score are 84.5%, 90.0% and 87.2% respectively. The model has good classification accuracy, and has certain reference significance for teachers to carry out personalized teaching.

Abstract:Predicting the admission scores of colleges and universities is significant for high school graduates in the College Entrance Examination in China (which is also called "Gaokao" for short). The practice of parallel application for the students after Gaokao not only puts forward a question about how students could make the best of their scores and make the best choice, but also results in the strong competition among different colleges and universities, with the institutions all striving to admit high-performing students in this examination. However, existing prevailing prediction algorithms and models of the admission score of the colleges and universities based on machine learning methods do not take such competitive relationship into consideration, but simply make predictions for individual college or university, causing low predication accuracy and poor generalization capability. This paper intends to analyze such competitive relationship by extracting the important features (e.g., project, location and score discrepancy) of colleges and universities. A novel competition model incorporating the coarse clustering is thus proposed to make the predictions for colleges and universities in a same cluster. By using Gaokao data of Shanxi province in China from 2016 to 2019, we testify the proposed model in comparison with several benchmark methods. The experimental results show that the precision within the error of 3 points and 5 points are 7.3% and 2.8% higher respectively than the second-best algorithm. It has proven that the competition model has the capability to fit the competitive relationship, thus improving the predication accuracy to a large extent. Theoretically, the method proposed could provide a more advanced and comprehensive view about the analysis of factors that may influence the admission score of higher institutions. Practically, the model proposed with high accuracy could help the students make the best of their scores and apply for the college and universities more scientifically.

Abstract:Advances in smartphone technology have promoted the rapid development of mobile apps. However, the availability of a huge number of mobile apps in application stores has imposed the challenge of finding the right apps to meet the user needs. Indeed, there is a critical demand for personalized app recommendations. Along this line, there are opportunities and challenges posed by two unique characteristics of mobile apps. First, app markets have organized apps in a hierarchical taxonomy. Second, apps with similar functionalities are competing with each other. Although there are a variety of approaches for mobile app recommendations, these approaches do not have a focus on dealing with these opportunities and challenges. To this end, in this article, we provide a systematic study for addressing these challenges. Specifically, we develop a structural user choice model (SUCM) to learn fine-grained user preferences by exploiting the hierarchical taxonomy of apps as well as the competitive relationships among apps. Moreover, we design an efficient learning algorithm to estimate the parameters for the SUCM model. Finally, we perform extensive experiments on a large app adoption dataset collected from Google Play. The results show that SUCM consistently outperforms state-of-the-art Top-N recommendation methods by a significant margin.
