Abstract:Oxidation reactions play important roles in organic synthesis, where hydrogen peroxide and peroxy acids are always employed as oxidants. Urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) is recently utilized in numerous oxidation reactions as environment-friendly solidified hydrogen peroxide, due to its advantages such as stable at room temperature, high hydrogen peroxide content (36.2%) and the potential for releasing it in a controlled manner. Several applications of UHP to organic synthesis are summarized according to reaction type, especially for epoxidation, Baeyer-Villiger oxidation, N-oxidation, oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones, oxidative-halogenation and so on.

Abstract:The recent development in synthesis of fine chemicals by using aqueous hydrogen peroxide as oxidant was reviewed. The applications of hydrogen peroxide in the epoxidation of olefin, selective oxidation of olefin, aldehyde, ketone and alkane, and the oxidation mechanism were summarized. Attention was also paid to relevant existing problems in use of hydrogen peroxide. Efficiency in usage of hydrogen peroxide and in-situ formation of hydrogen peroxide in the reaction system are two potential orientations in this field.

Abstract:Epoxides are of central importance in organic synthesis since they provide access to a series of different 1,2-difunctionalized intermediates starting from cheap olefins. Olefin epoxidation is catalyzed by a whole bunch of transition metal elements in high oxidation states, the most important are molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium and manganese. Organic peroxides, hydrogen peroxide bleach and even dioxygen have been used as the source of the oxygen atom that is transferred to the olefin. The present microreview summarizes the recent developments in terms of catalyst heterogenization for olefin epoxidation. Such strategies are requested for green synthesis protocols and are of special interest for expensive catalysts derived, e. g. from rhenium or complex chiral ligands.

Abstract:The epoxidation of alkenes has altered and reshaped the way scientists think in modern organic synthesis. Herein, a novel, sustainable and eco‐friendly protocol for the epoxidation of alkenes is reported, utilizing hydrogen peroxide as the green oxidant and, for the first time, hydroxamic acid derivatives as the organocatalyst. The presented methodology is very effective, leading to good to high yields for the oxidation of a variety of olefins, while various functional groups are well tolerated. Mechanistic studies utilizing direct infusion high resolution mass spectrometry (DI‐HRMS) provide strong evidence for the mechanism of the organocatalytic oxidation.

Abstract:Inorganic–organic hybrid material was formed by [PW11O39]7− and benzene-1,3,5-[tris(phenyl-4-carboxylic acid)] tris (2-trimethyl-ammonium ethyl) ester. This hybrid material behaved as a very effective and selective heterogeneous catalyst for the epoxidation of olefins with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. This heterogeneous catalyst could be easily recovered and reused after reaction without loss of activity.

Abstract:Propylene liquid-phase epoxidation with 50–75% H 2 O 2 is an important process for the industrial production of propylene oxide (PO). To realize a propylene epoxidation process that proceeds with low hydrogen peroxide concentration, we developed an integrated Mn/TS-1/N catalytic system via in-situ reaction of Mn/TS-1 with an N-donor ligand, affording the PO product in excellent yield with only 30 wt% H 2 O 2 . Other long-chain aliphatic epoxides were also readily synthesized by this catalytic epoxidation system. Moreover, in addition to the standard micro-pressure reactor, a continuous-flow microreactor was developed that executed the hydrogen peroxide propylene oxide (HPPO) process with excellent efficiency for 1300 hours. This innovative Mn/TS-1/N catalyzed epoxidation represents a promising direction for advancing HPPO industrial processes, offering improved efficiency while minimizing the reliance on high concentrations of H 2 O 2 . Abstract:Olefins and allylic alcohols have been epoxidized with commercially available hydrogen peroxide (30% H 2 O 2 ) using a phase transfer catalyst, composed of cetyltrimethylammonium cations and a lacunary-type phosphotungstate anion [PW 11 O 39 ] 7− or the complete Keggin-type heteropolyanion [PW 12 O 40 ] 3− , under two-phase conditions using ethyl acetate as the solvent. It was found that the lacunary-type catalyst showed higher activity and better recyclability than the complete Keggin-type catalyst under the same reaction conditions. 31 P NMR spectroscopy and solubility measurements for the two catalysts revealed that the [PW 11 O 39 ] 7− anion had a much faster degradation rate than the [PW 12 O 40 ] 3− anion in an excess of H 2 O 2 , which resulted in the formation of more catalytically active species. As a result, the lacunary-type phosphotungstate anion-based catalyst gave a better catalytic performance than the complete Keggin-type anion in ethyl acetate.

Abstract:Based on the introductions of reaction mechanism and technology of epoxidation reaction for vegetable oils,research progress on catalytic epoxidation of vegetable oil was briefly introduced. Applications of acid catalysts,such as inorganic acid,organic acid,heteropolyacid,ionic exchange resin,aluminium oxide,phase-transfer catalyst,and titanosilicate molecular sieve catalyst in epoxidation of vegetable oil were reviewed. Developing epoxided products based on non-edible vegetable oils is of high potential.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), an environmentally friendly strong oxidant and energy carrier, has attracted widespread attention in photocatalysis. Artificial photosynthesis of H 2 O 2 using water and oxygen as raw materials, solar energy as an energy source, and semiconductor materials as catalysts is considered a promising technology. In the past few decades, encouraging progress has been made in the photocatalytic production of H 2 O 2 . Therefore, we summarize the research achievements in this field in recent years. This review first briefly introduces the reaction pathway, detection techniques and evaluation metrics. Then, the recent advances in photocatalysts are highlighted. Furthermore, the existing challenges and possible solutions in this field are presented. At last, we look forward to the future development direction of this field. This review provides valuable insights and guidance for efficient photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production.

Abstract:Progress in catalytic epoxidation of propylene to propylene oxide were reviewed, in which O 2, H 2O 2, in-situ H 2O 2 and organic peroxide was used as oxidants. Catalytic reaction processes, catalysts, and catalytic reaction mechanisms were discussed. Prospect of green catalytic synthesis of propylene oxide was also forecasted. Direct epoxidation of propylene, taking advantages of simpler process, less byproducts, and friendliness to environment, is the trend of propylene oxide production. As an example, epoxidation of propylene by H 2O 2 over TS-1 catalyst will come into industrial application next year. Although gas phase epoxidation of propylene by molecular oxygen is the most attractive process, but can not be commercialized temporarily, because performance of the catalysts can't completely meet industrial requirements yet at present.

Abstract:Aqueous H2O2 is an environmentally ideal oxidant, when coupled with a tungstate complex. The progress in research and catalytic property of tungsten-based catalyst used in the hydrogen peroxide-epoxidation system is reviewed. According to the different patterns and catalytic processes, the heterogeneous catalysts are classified into two types, namely liquid-liquid biphasic catalyst and immobilized catalyst. Both are being tried to resolve the problem that the catalysts are hard to be recycled in industry and the rate of their reuse is low. On this basis the research status, catalytic mechanism and catalytic property of each type of catalyst are summarized, and their application is also prospected.

Abstract:Propylene oxide (PO), as the third largest propene derivative ranking behind polypropylene and acrylonitrile, is widely used in light industry, pharmaceutical and textile industries. Compared with traditional chlorohydrin and hydroperoxide processes, direct propene epoxidation with hydrogen and oxygen to synthesize PO has the advantages of being green, simple and profitable. It is therefore a current worldwide research hotspot. Herein, recent progress is reviewed with the purpose of solving remaining problems such as poor stability and low activity. Moreover, the effect of surface and structural properties of Ti-containing supports together with the morphologic and electronic effect of gold nanoparticles on catalytic activity and stability are introduced. The reaction mechanism and deactivation mechanism are further discussed. The influences of additives such as Cs, Ag, Pd, Pt, Ge, surface alkylation, ionic liquid and nitrogen doping on catalytic performance are summarized. The existing problems in direct propene epoxidation with H-2 and O-2 are also analyzed. In the end, possible solutions and directions from the aspects 'of selecting supports and improving catalytic performance are remarked.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) has received increasing attention because it is not only a mild and environment‐friendly oxidant for organic synthesis and environmental remediation but also a promising new liquid fuel. The production of H 2 O 2 through photocatalysis is green, sustainable and promising process, considering it uses water and oxygen as the source materials and solar light as the energy. Encouraging processes have been developed in last decade in the field of photocatalytic production of H 2 O 2 . Herein, we present a comprehensive review to summarize the research progresses for the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production. It starts with a brief introduction emphasizing on the superiorities of photocatalytic H 2 O 2 generation. The basic principles of establishing an efficient photocatalytic H2O2 generation system are discussed. Subsequently, we highlight the advanced photocatalysts for H 2 O 2 production. Finally, this review is concluded with a brief summary and outlook for advances in this emerging research field.

Recent Progress in Mo-containing Catalysts for Liquid Phase Epoxidation of Olefins

Abstract:Mo-containing catalysts for liquid phase epoxidation of olefins are reviewed,including Mo complexes,heterogenized Mo complexes and MoO3-based solid catalysts.All these catalysts are very effective when using organic peroxide as single-oxygen donor.In case of Mo complexes,the catalytic performance is significantly affected by the ligands,and moreover,asymmetric epoxidation can be realized by the introduction of chiral ligands.For MoO3-based solid catalysts,the catalytic properties have strong relations with surface molybdenum species.While in case of using H2O2 as oxygen donor,most of the reported Mo-containing catalysts are inactive.Therefore,it is a valuable field to develop Mo-containing catalyst that can activate H2O2 for the epoxidation of olefins.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide has attracted increasing interest as an environmentally benign and green oxidant that can also be used as a solar fuel in fuel cells. This review focuses on recent progress in production of hydrogen peroxide by solar-light-driven oxidation of water by dioxygen and its usage as a green oxidant and fuel. The photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide is made possible by combining the 2e− and 4e− oxidation of water with the 2e− reduction of dioxygen using solar energy. The catalytic control of the selectivity of the 2e− vs. 4e− oxidation of water is discussed together with the selectivity of the 2e− vs. 4e− reduction of dioxygen. The combination of the photocatalytic 2e− oxidation of water and the 2e− reduction of dioxygen provides the best efficiency because both processes afford hydrogen peroxide. The solar-light-driven hydrogen peroxide production by oxidation of water and by reduction of dioxygen is combined with the catalytic oxidation of substrates with hydrogen peroxides, in which dioxygen is used as the greenest oxidant.

Abstract:Au nanoparticles, which can be used in various industrial and environmental applications, have drawn substantial research interest. In this review, a comprehensive background and some insights are provided regarding recent studies concerning the use of Au nanoparticles for catalytic propylene epoxidation with H-2 and O-2. Over the last two decades, substantial progress has been made toward the efficient production of propylene oxide (PO); this includes the design of highly dispersed Au catalysts on Ti-modified mesoporous silica supports, the optimization of catalytic epoxidation, and the determination of the mechanisms and reaction pathways of epoxidation. Particularly, the critical roles of catalyst synthesis, the types of material support, Au nanoparticle sizes, and the dispersion amounts of Au nanoparticles are emphasized in this review. In future studies, novel, practical, robust, and highly PO-selective Au nanoparticle catalyst systems are expected to be continually designed for the enhanced catalytic epoxidation of propylene.
