Impact on Soil Erosion and Soil Properties by Human Disturbance——Case of the Low Mountains and Hills of Yixing, South Jiangsu Province

Abstract:The soil erosion and the soil properties change in the low mountains and hills of South Jiangsu Province are chosen as a target of study. And the uncultivated soil that is hardly disturbed in the miscellaneous forest is used as a reference. The soil erosion rates in the study area are estimated based on the redistribution of cesium 137 tracer element. Then the change amount of soil properties are discussed by means of some description indexes of the ratio of the coarse particle to the fine particle, the content of organic matter, the content of water and the change amount of indexes per unit slope length and by comparison between the cultivated soil and the uncultivated soil. The results of research show that human disturbance may increase soil erosion and raise the ratio of the coarse particle to the fine particle. Although some rational measures are available to slow down the pace of soil properties degradation, it is best way to control the soil erosion.
