Abstract:By using newly obtained seismic reflection profiles and drilling data, the structures and their evolution in the Suibin depression of the Sanjiang Basin were analyzed.Resutls show that the basin was a superimposed basin of Mesozoic residual and Cenozoic extensional basins, underwent four main evolution stages including the Late Jurassic rifting, the middle to late Early Cretaceous riffing and post-rifting,and the Cenozoic tifting and post-riffing,and two episodes of compressive events including the end of Jurassic and the Late Cretaceous. The coal-bearing Lower Cretaceous Chengzihe and Muling formations are the main successions in the Suibin depression.A multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method based on the Arcgis software was applied to predict favorable regions for coalbed methane exploration. Two aspects were focused in the evaluation including the coalbed methane gas potential and storage potential,e.g.,type,thickness,gas content, sedimentary facies and structural conditions of the coals. The southeastern depression was suggested to be most favorable for coalbed methane exploration
