Abstract:Graduate course construction plays an essential role in graduate education and the construction of a scientific and reasonable course system needs the instruction of advanced ideas. This thesis probes and explores the related course construction problems from three dimensions,namely course item,course system,training pattern by adopting dynamic,integral and coordinated concept of course construction. Aiming at the present situation and existing problems of graduate course construction,this thesis elaborates on specific construction strategies from three aspects,including enhancing the fusion and improvement of teaching aims,contents,activities and evaluation of course item,the integration and optimization of the course system as well as the cooperation and coordination of teaching and research.

Abstract:The Ministry of Education of P.R.C has been updated the major catalogue of China's higher education and added major of GIS in geographical science since 1997, the major of GIS has been set up in 93 universities and colleges nationwide. The curricular structure and the establishment of core courses are one of the most significant steps in GIS education. This paper, based on a questionnaire and investigation, points out that the curricular structure of GIS is composed of three parts, including general education courses, foundation courses for GIS and GIS courses. Then, the situation of foundation courses for GIS and GIS courses in various universities and colleges is especially discussed and the characteristics of the GIS courses is portrayed. Finally, the paper put forward the tentative program of the core courses setting, which can be utilized as a reference for different universities and colleges to plan their GIS education and the construction of core courses.

Abstract:Abstract With the development of the times, the education of geographic information system (GIS) in the basic education stage has been paid more and more attention. The entry of GIS into high school geography education is the inevitable development of basic geography education and the requirement of the times. In view of the important position of GIS in geography teaching, the cultivation of geography curriculum learning ability by normal students has become a problem that should be paid attention to. The rapid development of information technology and the in-depth advancement of the new curriculum reform have brought severe challenges to the sustainable scientific development of Chinese geography textbooks. At this time, the advantages of GIS technology in geography teaching are reflected. This paper analyzes the important educational functions of GIS in geography teaching and the current status of geography teacher’s map ability, and puts forward the optimization strategy of GIS geography teaching sustainable development: First, to clarify the teaching objectives of GIS geography teaching, and second, to optimize GIS geography The teaching content, the third is to strengthen the construction of professional faculty, the fourth is to adopt a variety of teaching methods, the fifth is to set up GIS geography teaching around the professional direction, and the sixth is to take the examination method. The innovative teaching thought has made useful attempts and explorations in accordance with the requirements of curriculum standards and case teaching. Combined with the basic requirements of Chinese teachers’ GIS level and software and hardware environment configuration, several countermeasures and suggestions are proposed to improve GIS. Abstract:Geographic information science (GIS) features a wide range of disciplines and has broad applicability. Challenges associated with rapidly developing GIS technology and the currently limited teaching and practice materials hinder universities from cultivating highly skilled GIS graduates. Based on the idea of 'small core, big network,' a comprehensive and interesting approach to GIS teaching practice is introduced in which a variety of key knowledge areas and technologies are effectively incorporated into a single project. A year-long assignment based on this approach was conducted, providing the students with practical training and successfully resulting in a digital three-dimensional representation of the campus.

Abstract:Under the diversified development backgrounds of urban planning discipline,this paper presents that schools should keep their own teaching characteristics by using the concept of knowledge coverage to discuss the selection of contents in pre-professional education.From the angle of individual students,it presents the diversity of study approaches,and the comparison of depth and breadth.From the angle of schools,it presents that the core curriculums required by the "China Urban Planning Education Network" is limited.From the angle of social demand,it analyzes the diversified social demands and the need to expand the scope of planning discipline.It argues that schools with different professional advantages should cooperate in planning education.At last it extends that the "featured" knowledge coverage is essential to the educational reform and schools should optimize the overall knowledge coverage by keeping their own teaching advantages.

Abstract:Geographical Information Sciences (GIS) in China have made great progress in recent years, and the Geographical Information Industry also developed well. But the public are still lack of knowledge about GIS, and they don't know exactly how GIS could facilitate their life and work. So there still is a long road for the socialization and popularization of GIS. Firstly this paper analyzed the status quo of GIS industry these years, pointed out the constraints and shortage for GIS' socialization and popularization. Based on the experience learning theory and circumstances learning of constructivism, this paper proposes the general framework of constructing GIS scientific experience area. The objective of constructing GIS scientific experience area is to provide the public necessary knowledge about GIS and promote socialization and popularization by supplying GIS experience to public. It tries to boost sciential discovery by experiencing and make the users to obtain some GIS spatial analysis knowledge, enhance the users' practical ability, and forming thinking pattern of GIS spatial analysis. Take the application of site decision as an example; this paper developed a series of case from the easy to difficult levels, focusing on the GIS learning experience, application and site decision. These applications vividly show the principles and methods of GIS spatial analysis. These case experiences included a digital interactive platform for the teenagers using GIS techniques such as RIA (Rich Internet Application) and open-source WebGIS and so on. From the effects of it works, GIS scientific experience area could provide the users plentiful GIS experience, which would be helpful to promote GIS knowledge for public, especially for teenagers, and promote GIS socialization of application for further development. Finally, this paper discusses the limitations in the GIS learning experience area, and put forward several suggestions to improve and develop the GIS learning experience zone.

Abstract:As one of the core curriculums throughout the based education and the professional education of Geography in college,China geography course is responsible for geographical national conditions education.Therefore,the systemic constructing of this course is not only necessary for the need of the country,but also is important for improving the quality of education.By the coalition of many universities,China geography teaching Seminar has been studying this item since 1995.Based on teaching researches,six systems engineering have been built up from two perspective—the multimedia and the multiscale,including the series of China geography teaching reference(textbooks,CD),the "China geography atlas",the website of China geography course,China geography classroom on the net,the series of province/city/region geography in China and the book "A Comparative Geography of China and the U.S.".In the next decade these projects will continue to extend and achieve their services to share high quality resources.

Abstract:GIS higher education is one of the hot issues in China in recent years. The curriculum system, the class contents, the practice approaches, and education methods were involved in the related research. However, most of the studies focused on the GIS professional education which includes bachelor and master degree, while very rare of them pay attention to the non-professional education. Taking the GIS education at Tsinghua University as an example, this article discusses the first-class education model for non-professional and application orientation by means of analyzing the development history and current situation of GIS education. The related issues, such as campus platform for GIS education, contents of GIS classes, teaching approaches, examination method, and teaching results were studied, practiced, and discussed. The experience will be shared by most of the scholars in universities and colleges.

Abstract:conventional teaching methods of civil engineering customarily accord with classical architectural design theories and engineering technology and instruct students to master proper planning principles and construction measures.These methods are based on "concept assimilation" and can be used for the teaching of the mature knowledge system,enable students to comprehensively learn normalized teaching contents.However,they fail to deal with the new demands from information society for the students,the future engineers,concerning the magnitude of data and the high speed of calculation.Based on practical projects and "a dynamic cognition transfer mode",a set of virtual civil engineering site design system is set up by making use of Geographic Information System(GIS),Mapx program and Visual Basic.This system can improve students' ideation and ability of information technology and civil engineering by adopting the teaching mode of "raw data sampling,encoding,normalized transfer,aid design,and model test".

Abstract:The education and training of geographical information science attract more and more attentions in the world-wide range because of the fast spread of GIS applications. In Peking University, GIS speciality was established in 1998 ahead of the others. During the progress and experience of GIS education, a set of characteristics were formed. 1) emphasizing basic courses and decreasing the differences between specialties; 2) laying geographical applications at an important position; 3) combining theories with practices and giving prominence to engineering; 4) reflecting the latest progress on GIS in time.

Abstract:In1997,the high er education major catalog was adjusted by Chinese Ministry of Education.A new major-Geographical Information System(GIS)was added in geographic subject.Aimed at how to set up core courses of GIS major,a brief description of actual condition of GIS main courses is presented based on the analysis of its structure and classification,then a preliminary project of GIS core course setup is given by the team of Chinese University GIS Core Course Setup.At the end,some specific countermeasures and advices are put forward to GIS core course in this paper.

Abstract:As a powerful tool to manage and analyze spatial data, GIS is developed quite fast in China since 1980s. The development of GIS brought an important challenge to geo-spatial education, made a huge change to traditional education on spatial information technology, and promoted the development of modern GIS education. By solving the problem, China has established a set of GIS training systems. However, the situation is still far from perfect. Led by the development of technology, the GIS training system stepped over three stages and keep on progressing. Abstract:Featuring as the discipline of research tool, project and intersection, GIS' science precipitates the stratification and versatility of GIS application and correspondingly social demand of GIS professional. Based on the investigation and analysis relating to the status of current GIS education at home and abroad, this paper points out that GIS professionals should own several dispositions: the integration of basic mathematical as well as spatial knowledge with perfect GIS specialty; the integration of fundamental skills of GIS and strong desire for GIS query and renovation; the integration of GIS developing technique and GIS projects-managing capacity. Moreover, they should grasp a correspondingly stereo knowledge structure, which is elongated by mathematical and spatial elementary, widen by the application, and deepen by special technology. At last, the educational model is proposed, and program is discussed aiming at cultivation of middle or advanced level GIS professionals.

Abstract:With the rapidly developing of specialty education of GIS in China,the number of high colleges set specialty education of GIS is continuously increasing.Aiming at the status of specialty education of GIS which is increasing but its quality is lack of guarantee,based on the analysis of existing problems,it introduced the contents of UCGIS Geographic Information Science and Technology Body of Knowledge in US.Then it analyzed the revelation for the specialty construction and talents cultivation of GIS in China.It suggested renovating the specialty construction of GIS in China using the UCGIS body for reference.Then it put some suggestions on compiling specialty specification,implementing specialty evolution,composing series teaching material,training teachers,and constructing education center,etc.

Abstract:For the students of GIS major,the capability and skill of software design and programming are required to some extent,while traditional single class teaching is difficult to meet current requirements of cultivating GIS talents.By guiding students to participate in software examination,the examination skill instructions and trainings are made according to the examination type and its subject w hich is ntroduced into classroom teaching.The curriculum teaching and software examination can be combined closely.The teaching methods of task-driven and scene teaching,classification and grouping and the double assessment methods with final test and software examination are introduced into curriculum teaching,which promotes the teaching of"spatial database".The implementation of teaching reform not only has improved teaching atmosphere and maintained normal teaching order in classrooms,but also promoted the after-school learning and social practice,w hich can provide the necessary conditions for cultivating high-quality GIS talents.

Abstract:Although it has been required much more GIS knowledge the student whose major is traffic and transportation should master in recent years, there is only one GIS elective for undergraduate student in Beijing Jiaotong University. This paper presents some thoughts of setting undergraduate course structure on GIS theory and its applications which is suitable for the students whose major is traffic and transportation in Beijing Jiaotong University. We make a questionnaire investigate for undergraduate students and postgraduate students and then we know the thoughts and the advices of students on this course. This paper analyzes the meanings of opening a GIS related course for traffic and transportation, discusses the contents and the teaching methods of this course and it also analyzes the approaches to join in and fusion with other courses for GIS, so that the students can master the GIS application methods really.

Abstract:Field practice is an important part of training geography research talents. However, traditional teaching methods may not adequately manage, share and implement instruction resources and thus may limit the instructor's ability to conduct field instruction. A possible answer is found in the rapid development of computer-assisted instruction ( CAI), a new teaching mode for the Information Age. A 'virtual field trip' is an amalgam of Internet and multimedia techniques with great potential for geography field instruction, as it can arouse students' enthusiasm and immerse them in learning. However, limited by available technology, virtual field trips have disadvantages in terms of content presentation, data organisation, and loss or inadequate representation of spatial information. To overcome the above shortcomings, a map-based, spatially correlated design method was proposed for a CAI system in geography. By integrating spatial information technology ( Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System, remote sensing, etc) and information delivery methods (web services, databases, etc), a WebGIS-based teaching assistant system for geography field practice ( TASGFP) was established, realising an effective spatial management scheme and forming a shared platform for instruction material. Its efficiency was verified through the actual application, although there remains room for improvement. Nevertheless, the TASGFP stands as an effective CAI tool in geography instruction.
