Abstract:Sediment types and material sources are of great significance for exploration and metallogenic theoretical research of solid resources in deep sea.Recent studies have shown that there are deep sea sediments with rich rare earth elements (REE) in the south of the Central Indian Oceanic Basin (CIOB) , but few studies are conducted in this area. This study tested the major elements, trace elements and REE of the box sediment samples obtained in BC02 station in the CIOB during the DY-34 Cruise. The results show that the sediments are basically siliceous bio-sediments, with little contribution of terrestrial and volcanic material sources. With the impact of siliceous bio-sediments dilution, most of the trace elements are low in content. The average content of REE is 265.41×10-6.The fractionation characteristics are basically the same as those of normal siliceous ooze, but are obviously different from those REE rich deepsea clays found in the CIOB and the Wharton Basin. The sediments were deposited under stable oxidation environment.
