Abstract:A diverse microscopic skeletal fauna including hyoliths, brachiopods, chancelloriids, sponge spi-cules,protoconodonts,anabaritiids,monoplaco-phora,achaeocyathids,tubular microfossils, and other small skeletal fossils,is reported from the bioclastic limestone at the uppermost Shuijingtuo Formation (Early Cambrian) in the Three Gorges area of western Hubei Province,South China. Among the skeletal fossils,9 species of hyoliths, referred to 8 families of 2 classes, are illustrated; the brachiopod assemblage is dominated by the acrotretid Eohadrotreta and the obolid Palaeoobolus. Of them, the monoplacophora is tentatively assigned to 3 genera of the Family Helconellidae,1 conformis species and 2 undetermined taxa. In addition, some Archaeoeyaths, and 9 species of other skeletal fossils including Hyolithid Tetrathecidae Quadrotheca sp.,Sulcavitida Altaicornus sp.,Linevitidae Linevitus sp.,Hyolithelminthid Hyolithellus cf. micans Billings,1871,Coleoloides cf. prindlei Lochman,1956,Monoplacophora Securiconus sp.,Igorella cf. minuta sp.,and Acrotretid brachiopod Eohadrotreta zhenbaensis are first recovered from the uppermost Shuijingtuo carbonate in the Yangtze Gorges area of western Hubei Pro-vince. The high-diversity and high-abundance ske-letal fossils also comprise robust spicules, and separately preserved librigenal spines of polymerids.
