Abstract:Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) with long durations are usually thought to originate from the massive star collapse. The existence of the wind environment is then unavoidable in the massive star GRB progenitor model. It is also believed that GRBs come from jets. Considering these two points in the paper, the authors calculate the evolution of a highly collimated jet that expands in a stellar wind environment as well as the expected afterglow temporal behavior. In comparison with the case of a homogeneous medium, it is shown that (1) For the wind case, there is no flattening tendency even up to 10 9 s, which is contrary to Livio Waxman's result. (2) There is no theoretical break around the time of γ= 1/θ 0 . This conflicts with Rhoads and Livio Waxman's expectations. (3) There is an obvious break during the time when the blast wave transits from the relativistic phase to the non relativitic phase. This result is consistent with Huang et al.'s one. (4) Compared with the homogeneous medium case, our calculated flux is weaker in the stellar wind case, which is consistent with Chevalier Li's result.
