Abstract:Weaned pigs were exposed to cold environment (-3~3 ℃) for 24 h, and then moved into room temperature (15~18 ℃) to recover. Blood samples were collected to investigate the dynamic changes of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol concentration. The results showed that the plasma ACTH and cortisol levels increased gradually with time of cold exposure. The ACTH concentration increased much greater at 6 h than that of pre-cold exposure (P0.05). The plasma concentrations of ACTH and cortisol were highest at 12 h (P0.01), whereas there were no differences compared with those of pre-cold exposure at 24 h. When 0.5 h of cold exposure ended, the ACTH and cortisol levels increased greater than that before cold stress (P0.05, P0.01). When 3 h of cold exposure ended, the concentrations were the same as those observed before cold stress. However, the plasma ACTH and cortisol levels increased once again at 6 h (P0.01), changing in wavy form. Tab 1, Ref 10
