Abstract:DNA vaccine is the plasmid DNA which can express recombinant antigen within eukaryotic cellsand induce both humoral and cellular immunities. The plasmid DNA can be transferred into cells by vaccine carrier with high efficiency. Salmonellae are facultative intracellular bacteria and are able to enter hostthrough mucosal routes and ingested by antigen-presenting cells (APC) which are capable of surviving and replicating inside phagocytic vacuoles. Meanwhile, bacterium cell components and ummethylated CpG motif are so-called pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMP). Both can provide an optimal danger signal through the activation of patten recognition receptors on APCs and act as natural adjuvants. Therefore, Sal-monellae are the potential DNA vaccine carrier for vaccination by mucosal routes.
