Abstract:From CD to DVD to Blu-ray Disc, that optical disc all adopted the error-correction code to improve the storage. The error-correction code for the Blu-ray Disc, the up-to-the-minute optical disc, is more advanced than others. Many new technologies are applied in the Blu-ray Disc, especial the error-correction code which called Picket code is more powerful than RS and RSPC code. In the same condition, the error-code rate of the optical disc which used the Picket code is 1.5x10-18, and the optical disc used RSPC is 5.7x10-7. In this paper, the characteristic of those technologies which used in the optical disc will be discussed, include RS code used in CD system, RSPC code used in DVD system, and Picket code. Finally, it will add two different error matrixes to simulate the process of the error-correction code for the DVD system. In this simulating process, especially, we will compare the RS and RSPC code from mathematical direction in the simulation which is different from the professional comparison, this method can be easily accepted by beginner and the comparative result is very intuitionistic for freshman.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a precision optimization method which is for double one-way pseudo-code inter-satellite measurement system based on random access. The objective of this paper is to improve the accuracy of random access to inter-satellite measurement system. We have carried out several sets of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation to verify the validity of the proposed method for the accuracy optimization of inter-satellite measurement system. The studies we have performed showed that the proposed method could eliminate the main satellite error which caused by the dynamic characteristic of satellites and the frequency source drift. The research work has resulted in a solution of inter-satellite ranging scheme based on random access. The results of the paper have made a fundamental contribution to the future of distributed satellite communications.
New Interleaving Scheme for Error Correction Code of a Multilevel Optical Storage System

Abstract:Disc scratches, dusts and noise corruption et al. will cause data sequence errors including random errors and burst errors. With the recording density of multilevel (ML) optical storage system increasing, the same length of scratches on the surface of optical disc will bring more burst errors in ML DVD than conventional optical recording systems, e. g., digital versatile disc (DVD) and compact disc (CD). A new interleaving scheme based on Reed-Solomon code (RS) is proposed to solve this problem. In DVD system, the burden of the Parity of Outer-code (PO) is huge, while the Parity of Inner-code (PI) has more correcting ability than needed. The new interleaving algorithm adjusts the structure of data frame and block and improves the interleaving depth of ECC block to reduce the burden of PO. The results of numerical simulations are presented to verify the performance of the new interleaving algorithm compared with RSPC. The new proposed scheme can correct maximum burst error length of the proposed code is 6912 bytes. Burst error correcting capacity of the proposed scheme is improved up to 137.4% more than that of the RSPC.

Abstract:We propose semi-analytical approaches for estimating the failure rate of interleaved error correction code (ECC) for parity-check (PC)-coded optical recording systems. We demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed approaches using simulation results. We further evaluate the ECC failure rate (EFR) of a PC-coded optical recording system. The analysis shows that with optimum interleaving degrees, the 4-bit constrained PC code achieves a gain of 0.6 dB over the rate 9/13 code without parity at EFR = 10(-16).

Abstract:In order to increase storage capacity and data transfer rates, a sophisticated optical storage technology - Multi-layer and Multi-wavelength photochromic storage technology - has been developed. Based on the characteristics of Photochromic medium, Multi-laser can do parallel reading or writing. In this case, the error-correcting code of conventional Compact Disc could not adapt to the Multi-layer storage. This paper put forward an error-correcting code for the two-layer storage. And some simulations were carried out.

Abstract:With the improvement of recording density of multi-level (ML) optical storage system, more serious burst errors will be caused by the same degree of scratches on the surface of disc in ML optical disc than conventional optical recording systems such as DVD. In this paper we present a new error correction code (ECC) scheme on the basis of improving original ECC scheme. The scheme is composed of two blocks. One is used to generate erasure information through the error-only decoding and the other carries out error and erasure decoding according to the erasure information provided from one. The code rate of the proposed scheme is up to 87.9% and the maximum correctable length of burst errors is 7104 bytes. The simulation result shows that the new scheme is qualified and effective for multi-level (ML) optical system.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors investigate the performance of recently presented run-length limited (4, 18) code for high density optical storage systems. The construction of the code is described simply. The code has code rate R = 1/3 and density ratio ( DR ) = 1.67. The bit error rate (BER) performance for decision feedback equalizer (DFE) and partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detector are simulated, considering signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and optical channel jitter. The result shows that the performance of the code is acceptable. The encoder and decoder of the code are implemented by complex programmable logic device (CPLD) chip and the hardware resources required for encoder and decoder are␣low.

Abstract:Multi-level run-length-limited read-only optical storage is a kind of high density storage method. The width and height of recording marks are varied with different levels, which is the key technology for the optical storage. When the readout signal of these discs with complex recording marks is computed by vector analysis method, it is very hard and time-consuming. Approximated vector computation combines the convenience of scalar method and precision of vector method, which is effective for multi-level run-length-limited read-only optical storage.

Abstract:Multilevel storage is the easiest two-dimensional storage technology. On the basis of recording and read-out optical system of Digital Versatile Disc (DVD), by the method of multilevel run-length coding, the storage capacity can be increased by 60 percent of DVD9's, reaching 14 Giga Bytes. In order to meet the requirement of a 10(-4) raw Bit Error Rate (BER) of data readout, this paper presents a method of multilevel run-length coding with changeable level numbers. This method can take advantage of run-length redundancy to the utmost and reduce Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) caused by multilevel run-length. Multilevel run-length coding uses the method of two steps modulation. This paper introduces a coding method of DK (1, 9) and R=1 code rate. Realized by Pulse Width Modulation, multilevel run-length modulation coding with changeable level has good symmetry. Its readout characteristics are the same as that of DVD with normal run-length modulation, therefore the servo control system needn't be changed. Also the signal can be recognized in two aspects respectively, run-length and level. In the sample disc, average raw BER in the two aspects is less than 10(-3). Multilevel run-length modulation coding could be applied in various systems of run-length modulation coding. On the basis of the structure and characteristics of the primitive system, the comprehensive efficiency of coding could be increased by 33 to 50 percent.

Abstract:Multilevel recording with run-length limited (RLL) modulation is a novel way to significantly increase the recording density without changing the optical or mechanical units of current optical, disc systems. In this paper, a new efficient 4-ary RLL(2, 13) code with special constraint is designed for four-level RLL modulation on read-only digital versatile disc (DVD-ROM). This code can result in alternate multilevel pits and lands on the disc, and reduce the difficulty of multilevel disc replication. Further more, simulation results show the symbol error rate (SER) performance can be improved about 3 dB when the proposed code is used for optical recording channel with partial-response maximum-likelihood (PRML) detection.

Abstract:Multilevel optical data storage is an important technology to improve the recording density of optical disc without changing the optical parameters. One approach is multilevel amplitude modulation, which uses the variance of signal amplitude of length-fixed recorded marks to record information. Another one is multilevel runlength-limited (RLL) modulation, which records information in both the signal amplitude and the length of recorded marks, thus can improve the recording density more effectively than the first way. Multilevel RLL coding is a key technology in multilevel RLL modulation optical recording. In this paper, a new 8-ary (1, 3) RLL code is designed with state splitting algorithm. The recording density of this code is as high as 3.0 bits/ symbol, and the encoder/decoder is simple and easy to implement. The proposed code can be used for future high density multilevel RLL modulation optical disc systems.

Abstract:Error correction performance analysis is essential for optimizing parameters in designs of joint source channel coding schemes.However,in most joint source channel coding schemes,the relationship between the error correction performance and the encoding rate can only be assessed through empirical tests.This paper presents a theoretical analysis of an error resilient arithmetic stack decoding algorithm as an example.The upper bound on the sequence error probability is shown to be inversely proportional to(1-R),where R is the error resilient code coding rate.Simulations verify the accuracy of this upper bound.The analysis method also provides a theoretical basis for parameter optimization of joint source channel coding scheme designs.

In this paper, the system model of typical coded modulation system(BICM) and common algorithms of demapping and LDPC decoding are summarized and analyzed. After that, the performance of different algorithms is analyzed by simulations. The results could be adopted to facilitate the hardware design and implementation.

Abstract:The lower bound on the decoding error probability for the optimal code given a signal-to-noise ratio and a code rate are investigated in this letter for the reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) communication system over a Rician fading channel at the short blocklength regime, which is the key characteristic of ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) to meet the need for strict adherence to quality of service (QoS) requirements. Sphere packing technique is used to derive our main results. The Wald sequential t-test lemma and the Gaussian-Chebyshev quadrature are the main tools to obtain the closed-form expression for the lower bound. Numerical results are provided to validate our results and demonstrate the tightness of our results compared to the Polyanskiy-Poor-Verdu (PPV) bound.

Abstract:Product code is a promising technique for the next generation digital terrestrial broadcasting transmission system, due to its superior error correction performance. In this paper, we propose an Low Density Parity Check-Reed Solomon (LDPC-RS) product code structure, along with a novel hybrid iterative decoding scheme. The decoding scheme combines a hybrid LDPC decoding technique and RS+LDPC hard decision decoding to form a `turbo-like' decoding structure. By ingeniously ranging the order of different decoding techniques as well as performing error estimation and soft value modification at proper stages, the proposed decoding scheme greatly improves the error performance in low SNR regions while reducing the computational complexity in moderate and high SNR regions compared with the simple concatenation of LDPC and RS decoding. Moreover, we propose a rate compatible LDPC-RS product code to further reduce complexity by adaptively choosing the decoding code rate. Simulation results verify the outstanding error performance and suitability for the energy saving applications.

In this paper, we give a survey of several typical multi-level optical storage schemes. The principle and characteristic of different multi-level optical storage are analyzed and compared.
