Abstract:Sarcopenia is increasingly recognized as a correlate of ageing and is associated with several adverse health outcomes including physical disability, falls, poor quality of life and mortality. Currently, several definitions of sarcopenia have been proposed assessing muscle mass, muscle strength and physical performance. But no consensus has yet been reached. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to summarize several screening tools of sarcopenia which are universally used, and to review the prevalence of sarcopenia in Chinese elderly in the last three years.
