Abstract:Objective To observe the antidepressant effect of electrocupuncture (EA) in stress-induce d depression model rat. Method Thirty-two SD male rats were randomly divided into four groups as follows: norm al, depression model, depression model plus EA, depression model plus chlorimipr amine. By using the open-field test, the effects of EA were observed on the day before stimulation, and the 14th, 28th day during experiment. Results Depression model rats exhibited reduced crossing and r earing and the increase of body weight, as compared with the normal group. Compa red with the depression model group, EA and chlorimipramine could significantly improve the number of crossing and rearing. However, the increase of body weight had no significant difference among depression model group, depression model pl us EA group and depression model plus chlorimipramine group. Conclusion EA can improve behavior of depression model rats and possess an antidepressant e ffect.
