Abstract:Objective To study the epidemiological characteristics of viral diarrhea caused by norovirus in Pudong New District of Shanghai,China. Methods Stool specimens in 14 surveillance hospitals from July 2011 to July 2014 were collected and detected by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for norovirus subtype G Ⅰ and G Ⅱ.Comprehensive epidemiological features of the norovirus infections were analyzed. Results A total of 6 392 specimens were detected;of which,70 cases were type G Ⅰ,962 cases were type G Ⅱ while 21 were co-infections.The detection rate of type G Ⅰ,G Ⅱ and co infection were 1.10%,15.05% and 0.33%,respectively.The epidemic level of type G Ⅰ was low throughout the surveil lance period, and no seasonal peak of type G Ⅰ infection could be distinguished.Type G Ⅱ was significantly higher than type G Ⅰ.There was a significant prevalent peak in each October and another small peak was from March to April.People who lived in crowded environment were easier to infect with norovirus according based on the data of geographical distribution. Conclusions To prevent the outbreak of public health event caused by norovirus, surveillance should be enhanced, especially in autumn in densely populated areas.
