A multicenter survey on the understanding, attitude and practice of rehabilitation among medical staff in the department of orthopedics

Abstract:Objective To investigate the understanding, attitude and practice of rehabilitation among medical staff in the department of orthopedics, providing supporting data for health decision-making department. Methods Nine centers ( 436 staff ) were included in this registration study. All medical staff in 9 hospitals in Beijing were selected. Questionnaire was used to investigate the understanding, skills, training needs, etc.Results 90.68% of doctors and nurses received orthopedic rehabilitation training and nearly 10% did not receive any training. 93.04% of doctors and nurses were in need of advanced training on orthopedic rehabilitation knowledge and skills. 63.15%of the medical staff were satisifed with the postoperative orthopedic rehabilitation effects while 36.85% not. 77.80%medical staff thought the orthopedic rehabilitation system had faultiness. 20.69% orthopedics medical staff didn’t make individualized rehabilitation plan for patients. The proportions of the establishment of good, poor or no clinical pathway between orthopaedics surgeons and rehabilitation staff were 51.97%, 21.81% and 26.22%, respectively.Conclusions It is necessary to strengthen the inservice training on the knowledge and skills of orthopaedic rehabilitation, particularly to improve the training system. It is significant to develop guidelines for postoperative rehabilitation after the orthopaedic surgery.
