Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of HSP70 and HSP70mRNA, oxidative activity and extent of apoptosis of PMNs in the patients with SIRS suffering from trauma. Methods 22 patients with SIRS suffering from trauma were included. We collected blood samples during the course of recovery to investigate the expression of HSP70 and HSP70mRNA, oxidative activity and extent of apoptosis in PMNs. In parallel, the levels of cytokines (IL-6, IL-8) in blood plasma were also measured. We chose 14 healthy volunteers as control. Results ①The expression of HSP70 and HSP70mRNA and oxidative activity in PMNs patients were significantly increased. After SIRS occurring, the levels of HSP70 expression were higher than those before SIRS.② Apoptosis of these PMNs was markedly inhibited after trauma. ③The levels of cytokines (IL-6, IL-8) in blood plasma were increased with the development of SIRS. Conclusions The development of SIRS after trauma is characteristic of elevation of some inflammatory cytokines, and heat stress response and functional changes will occur in PMNs, which indicates HSP70 expression may relate with the changes of neutrophil functions.
