Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of self-efficacy intervention on elderly patients with diabetes mellitus.Methods Totally 96 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomized into a control group and an observation group,with 48 patients in each group.The control group was given routine nursing and health education,while the observation group additionally received self-efficacy intervention.Diabetes Distress Scale(DDS) and Summary of Diabetes Self-care Activities (SDSCA) were used to as sess the two groups before and after the intervention.Results After the intervention,the score of SDSCA in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group,while the score of DDS was significantly lower than that in the control group (P＜0.01 for both).Conclusion Self-efficacy intervention for elderly patients with diabetes mellitus can obviously relieve psychological distress,and improve self-management behavior,which is helpful for disease control.
