Study on the correlation between inflammatory symptoms and inflammatory cytokines in patients with lung cancer

Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between sickness symptom and inflammatory cytokines and definite sickness symptom cluster at the basis of immunological mechanism.Methods Patients diagnosed with lung cancer received radiotherapy between February 2014 and February 2016 was selected for the study.Patients were asked to fill out the questionnaires including Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale(SDS), pain and fatigue visual analogue scale(VAS).The survey tools were filled out before receiving radiotherapy, the 2nd week during radiotherapy, the 4th week and the time of completing radiotherapy.Meanwhile, patients′ blood sample was collected to detect the level of inflammatory cytokines including IL-6, IL-1β.Results The levels of sleep disturbance, pain, fatigue had rising trend along with receiving radiotherapy.The levels of anxiety and depression were in the trend of descending first and rising later(P<0.05).The relationship between sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, fatigue and IL-6 was positive correlation at the time of completing radiotherapy(P<0.05).Conclusion Lung cancer patients′ sickness symptom cluster are consist of sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression and fatigue at the time of completing radiotherapy.Medical staff should evaluate the positive symptom of sickness symptom cluster for timely recognizing and controlling to avoid the symptoms deteriorating or occurring additive effects.
