Stress in Early Stage among Patients with Permanent Colostomy and Its influence Factors

Abstract:Objective To investigate the stress in the early stage and its influencing factors among patients with permanent colostomy. Methods A self-designed general information questionnaire and stress scale of colostomy were used to investigate 203 patients with permanent colostomy. Single factor analysis was conducted to explore the influencing factors of stress in the early stage, and the factors with statistical significance were enrolled into the multiple stepwise regression analysis. Results The average score of entries of stress in the early stage was 2.68±0.62 among the 203 patients with permanent colostomy. Among them, slight stress was observed in 43 cases (21.2%), moderate stress in 105 cases (51.7%), and severe stress in 55 cases (27.1%). Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the influencing factors of stress in the early stage among permanent colostomy patients included family relationship, complications of stoma and surrounding skin, family income, nursing support, gender, and self acceptance of stoma. Conclusion There is great stress in the early stage among patients with permanent colostomy, which was influenced by multiple factors and the corresponding and individualized interventions should be conducted to decrease the stress and promote the recovery of the permanent colostomy patients.
