Abstract:Objective To describe cognitive status quo of the patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and its influencing factors and to provide effective individual nursing care and specific nursing intervention for clinical nurses. Methods The study was designed to survey the general situation and cognitive function of 299 patients with OSAS from January 2012 to August 2014 who were treated in respiratory sleep therapy room in Peking union medical college hospital. It was achieved by the usage of self-designed general information questionnaire and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA). Results Of the total, 84.6%of the patients were males, with age of (46.88±12.74) years old. And 59.9%of the patients completed college or university study. The score of MOCA was (25.70±2.09) points, and 42.8% of the patients had cognitive dysfunction. Specifically, the score of visual space and executive function, naming, attention, language, delayed recall, abstract thinking, directional force was (4.06 ±0.90) points, (2.65±0.56) points, (5.19±0.42)points, (2.54±0.49) points, (3.94±0.99) points, (1.71±0.48) points and (5.50±0.87) points respectively. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that educational background, income, smoking or not and insomnia accounted for 10.5% of the total variance in the interpretation of cognitive function. Conclusion The study identifies a higher incidence rate of cognitive dysfunction and a lower variation degree which can be explained with the general information in patients with OSAS. The study in the future could extend the influence field based on this foundation and explore more relevant interventional factors further.
