The Impact of Social Support and Coping Styles on the Mood of Post-Operative Breast Cancer Patients

Abstract:Objective After first operation, to explore the impact of social support and coping styles on the mood of breast cancer patients without receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Methods 68 post-operative breast cancer patients from five hospitals in Guangzhou were assessed with POMS-SF, PSSS, DWI-CI. Results In this group, poor mood were found in many patients, main effects of social support and coping styles on mood were significant (F=4.22, P=0.04; F=6.78, P=0.01), and interaction effect existed between social support and active-behavior, and between social support and avoidance. (F=8.55, P=0.00; F=10.18; P=0.00). Conclusion Given the poor mood of confirmed breast cancer patients at the early stage of operative treatment, they should be offered more social support, helped to take more active behavior when facing disease, and asked to have less avoidance method.
