Investigation on Social Function and Influencing Factors of Hospitalized Elderly Patients with Schizophrenia

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the social function of hospitalized elderly schizophrenic patients in Shanghai,and analyze the main influencing factors.Methods:100 cases of senile schizophrenia patients chosen from three mental health centers in Shanghai were investigated by using the social function rating scale(SSPI),social support scale(PSSS),geriatric depression scale(GDS) and the general situation questionnaires,and finally 87 valid questionnaires were collected.Results:the overall social function scale scores of 87 senile schizophrenia patients were (25.52 ± 9.70);78 cases of them(89.7％) had different degrees of social impairment(SSPI score less than 38),of which 18 cases were severe,and 38 were moderate and 22 were mild.Multivariate regression analysis showed that degrees of depression,sports activities and contact with family and friends are the main factors affecting the overall social function of patients.Conclusion:There are serious defects of social function in hospitalized elderly patients with schizophrenia,having serious impact on the psychological and social rehabilitation.There are some main factors influencing patients' social function including depression,social support and contact relatives,the low degree of participation in cultural and sports activities.In the clinical nursing work,we should provide the corresponding intervention measures to deal with the patients.
