The Radiological Features and Diagnostic Value of the Ulcer in the Terminal Ileum

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the radiological features and diagnostic value of the ulcer in the term inal ileum by colon double contrast radiogra- phy (CDCR) and small intestine double contrast radiography (SIDCR). Materials and Methods: Among 22 patients with ulcer in the terminal ileum proved by colonoscopy, 18 cases received CDCR and 16 cases SIDCR. The demonstration of the ulcer were classified into 3 groups: good, poor and no demonstration. Results: The demonstration rates of the ulcer were 94.4% in CDCR and 93.18% in SIDCR. The rates of good demonstration were 67 % in CDCR and 50 % in SIDCR respectively. The multiple ulcers accounted for 54.5 % . The ulcers smaller than 1cm accounted for 54. 5%. The longitudinal ulcer and the round-like ulcer were 40.9% and 31.8% respectively. The ulcers with bowel stenosis were found in 36.4% and with pseudodiverticulum were in 22.7%. Conclusion: The CDCR should be selected to the patients with clinically suspected ulcer in the termi- nal ileum.
