Abstract:Background and purpose:Pulmonary marginal zone Bcell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT lymphoma) was rare in primary pulmonary malignant tumors.But of all MALT lymphomas of extranodal sites,pulmonary MALT lymphomas were not uncommon.Since there is a lack of specific clinical manifestation and imaging information,it is a challenge to distinguish pulmonary MALT lymphomas from pulmonary lesions and malignant epithelial tumors.In this study we tried to define the characteristics of radiology,histopathology and immunohistochemistry of pulmonary MALT lymphomas.Methods:15 patients with pulmonary MALT lymphomas were enrolled into the study,the pathological diagnoses of the patients were based on the macroscopic and morphological features on hematoxylin-eosin(HE) sections.Other imaging information of the patients were also reviewed like chest X-ray and/or computed tomography(CT) images,and BCL10 immunostaining.Results:morphologically,pulmonary MALT lymphomas had similar features of classic gastric MALT lymphoma,but also with some specific features different from MALT lymphomas in other sites.BCL10 immunostaining showed 61.5%(8/13) were nuclear positive;on the radiology,pulmonary MALT lymphomas could be divided into two subtypes: type and lump type.For the type,radiological features showed solitary or diffuse cluster shadow,and the lump type showed solitary or several round lumps often placed in the periphery of the lung,with clear or fuzzy margin.Conclusions:Pulmonary MALT lymphomas have unique features on histopathology.BCL10 nuclear expression also could be an auxiliary parameter for MALT lymphoma diagnosis.Radiological characteristics may be helpful for surgery,the evaluation of treatment response and relapse.But the main challenge for clinicopathologists is still how to differentiate the MALT lymphomas from inflammatory pseudotumor and some other non-specific inflammations.
