Abstract:Objective To explore the variation regularities and clinical significance of plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in c hronic renal failure and dialysis patients. Methods Levels of Plasma hs-CRP were detected in 45 chronic renal failure patients, 32 hemodialysis patients and 45 peritoneal dialysis patients by automated latex-enhanced nephelometric immun oassay on Behring Nephelometer 100, at the same time, plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein chol esterol, albumin and pre-albumin were determined. All the results were compared with those of 42 healthy volunteers. Results The hs-CRP levels of three grou ps of patients were (4.82±6.86) mg/L (chronic renal failure patients), (3.58±4 .28) mg/L (hemodialysis patients) and (6.89±7.54) mg/L (peritoneal dialysis pat ients). Statistics showed great difference (P0.05~0.001) between patient groups and those of healthy volunteers (1.78±2.26)mg/L. Levels of Plasma hs-CRP were significantly increased in these patients. Taking hs-CRP3 mg/L (normal upper ra nge) as cut-off value, positive rate were 44.44% in chronic renal failure patien ts, 40.63% in hemodialysis patients and 62.22% in peritoneal dialysis patients, respectively. Levels of Plasma hs-CRP showed a positive relationship with plasma creatinine concentration(r =0.35; P 0.05), but a negative relationship with pl asma albumin and pre-albumin(r=-0.3 and r=-0.43, P0.05). In the blood lipid fie ld, there showed a significant difference between peritoneal dialysis patients a nd healthy volunteers (P0.05~0.001), while no statistic difference was found be tween hemodialysis patients and healthy volunteers. Conclusions Plasma high -sensitivity C-reactive protein levels show an increasing in patients of chronic renal failure, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. The demermination of hs-CR P should be beneficial to prevent and treat the various cardiovascular complicat ions of chronic renal diseases.
