Assessment of coronary microcirculation and function

Abstract:In the past 20 years,dysfunction of the coronary microcirculation was recognized as one of the causes of myocardial ischemia and associated with long-term prognosis.Although coronary microvasculature cannot be directly imaged,a number of invasive and noninvasive techniques can be used as special parameters to assess coronary microcirculation function.These techniques include invasive coronary hemodynamic parameters via coronary catheter,and noninvasive imaging such as cardiac magnetic resonance and radionuclide imaging.Each method has relative advantages and limitations, however, these techniques have provided novel insights into the physiological and pathophysiological status,the regulation of the whole coronary artery system,and guide clinical therapy to the coronary artery disease.
