Effect of Hydrotalcid and Cisapride on Bile-Reflux Gastritis and Intragastric Bile

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of hydrotalcid and cisapride in bile reflux gastritis and 24 hour intragastric bile. Methods Thirty patients with bile reflux gastritis proven by 24 hour intragastric bile monitoring were divided into 3 groups equally at random, which were treated with cisapride 5mg three times a day; hydrotalcid 1.0g three times a day and both drugs respectively. The severity of the symptoms including abdominal pain, abdominal distention, nausea and bile vomitus were investigated before and four weeks after treatment. 24 hour intragastric bile monitoring was also reexamined. Results The severity of all the symptoms in the three groups decreased greatly after treatment ( P 0.01). The total fraction time of bile reflux decreased from 15.7%±7.8%,17.0%±16.3% and 16.9%±15.6% to 4.9%±4.5%( P 0.01),0.8%±0.9%( P 0.01) and 1.2%±2.3%( P 0.01) respectively.Conclusions Hydrotalcid can bind with intragastric bile and is effective in bile reflux gastritis.
