Abstract:Objective Analyzing the safety, short and long term prognosis of intracoronary low power red laser therapy. Methods There were 29 patients with 35 altered vessels in the study group. According to AHA/ACC classification the lesions were classified as: 4 in type A, 15 in type B, 16 in type C. 16 stents were implanted at 16 De novo lesions. The reason of using stents in 13 lesions wasdissection with PTCA. 3 repeat PTCA was performed because of restenosis in stents. Three lesions were treated with only PTCA. The intracoronary low power red laser therapy was performed with the low power red laser catheter after intervention. The laser wavelength was 650 nm. 10 mW for 1 min×3. The clinic and coronary angiography follow up was performed for 2 years. Results The diameter of reference vessels was 3 15 mm±0 56 mm and the average lesion length was 21 52 mm±18 25 mm. The diameter and length of stent or balloon was 3 17 mm±0 29 mm and 26 81 mm±11 34 mm, respectively. The diameter and length of laser balloon was 3 11 mm±0 24 mm and 25 34 mm±5 60 mm, respectively. The procedural successful rate was 100%. The diameter stenosis was reduced from (86 49±11 01)% before treatment to (13 11±7 89)% after therapy, MLD increased from 0 42 mm±0 39 mm to 2 56 mm±0 47 mm,P0 0001. Only 1 patient had AMI because of bilateral occlusion after intervention, the clinical successful rate was 96 6%. During the following up, seven patients had angina pectoris reoccurring (24 1%). Eleven patients with 13 vessels had repeated coronary angiography, restenosis (diameter stenosis ≥50%) was found in 4 vessels (30 8%), two patients were treated with repeated PTCA, two patients treated with PTCA because of progression of other lesions, one patient died after CABG. Conclusions Coronary interventional therapy assisted with intracoronary low power laser irradiation is safe and its long term prognosis is acceptable. However, since the number of cases included in this group was not large enough, it can not confirm that the intracoronary low power red laser therapy can lower the restenosis rate after coronary intervention.
