A Study on the Efficacy and Safety of Oseltamivir in the Treatment of Suspected Influenza Patients

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Oseltamivir in the treatment of suspected influenza patients.Methods A randomized,open,control trial was conducted among 72 individuals with suspected influenza.They were randomly assigned either to Oseltamivir group(oseltamivir 75 mg,twice daily for 5 days) or control group(symptom relief medication only).Results No difference was found between two groups in influenza symptoms (P0.05) before the treatment.Oseltamivir treatment significantly reduced the duration of fever [(38.67±20.31)h] compared to controls [(72.67±38.80)h] (P 0.000 1 ) with shortening duration by 36 h.The AUC score of other symptoms was decreased to (410.33±290.55) which was less by 265.00 (about 39.25%) compared to controls (675.00±451.82) (P0.005) with shortening duration by 27 hours.No difference was found between two groups in secondary complications of the patients (P0.05).Digestive symptom such as light nausea were occur in patients who took oseltamivir,but the prevalence was not different between two groups(P0.05).Conclusions Our data suggests that Oseltamivir is effective and well tolerated in suspected influenza patients.It can reduces the duration and severity of influenza symptom with mid side effect.
