Abstract:Objective To investigate the control rate of cardiovascular disease risk factors ( CRFs) and to explore the influence of age on the control rate in patients with T2DM. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out on the basis of Comprehensive Research on the Prevention and Control of the Diabetes in Jiangsu. A total of 13135 patients aged over 60 years with T2DM were enrolled in this study. Patients were divided into three groups by age:younger elderly, middle elderly, and older elderly. The control of CRFs including glycosylated hemoglobin ( HbA1c) , lipid profiles, blood pressure and body mass index ( BMI) were evaluated. Multiple Logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the association between age and the control rate. Results The proportion of the elderly who achieved target control of blood pressure, HbA1c, lipid profiles and BMI was 47. 14%, 42. 92%, 13. 52% and 36. 90% respectively. The control rate of blood pressure, lipid and BMI was different in different age groups. After adjusted for sex, area, duration of diabetes, drug usage and compliance with medication, there were significant associations between age and the control rate of blood pressure, lipid and BMI. The proportion of patients achieving target control of BMI and lipid profiles showed increasing trend with the increase of age, but the proportion of patients achieving target of blood pressure showed decreasing trend. Conclusions The control rate of risk factors for CVDs is unsatisfied in elderly T2DM patients. In addition, personalized intervention measures should be taken into consideration and multiple kinds of health education should be carried out among the elderly with T2DM.
