Abstract:Objective To evaluate the relationship between central aortic systolic pressure(CASP) and the age as well as body mass index(BMI).Methods A total of 124 normal persons were divided into three groups:youth group (aged less than 45 years,n=41) ; middle age group (aged 45-64 years,n=44) and aged group (more than 65 years group,n=39).CASP was measured non-invasively by radial artery applanation tonometry BPro(R)(A-PULSE CASP and corresponding software). All persore received the examinations such as ECG,chest X-ray,heart ultra-sonic.The levels of cholesterol,triglyceride,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting blood glucose and past blood glucose,BUN,creatinine and uric acid were determined,Results There were significant difference in CASP between the youth group and the middle age group, and between the youth group and the aged group. There was positive association of CASP with gender, age,BMI; There was positive association of radial artery augmentation index of reflected wave (RAI) with age; There was negative association of PRT with gender, age,BMI.There was linear relationship between CASP and the age as well as BMI (P<0.01).Conclusions CASP is increased with the increase of age,and is also positively related with BMI.CASP is increased by 0.469 mmHg with the age increasing one year, and increased by 0.352 mmHg with BMI increasing 1.
