Abstract:Epigenesis refers to the alteration of gene expression and function without a change in the nucleotide sequence,and produce heritable phenotypes.Environmental factors,including age,obesity,nutrition and exercise interact with genetic factors,leading to DNA methylation,histone modifications,RNA interference and other epigenetic changes,increasing immune dysfunction,inflammation and insulin resistance,and resulting “metabolic memory” and diabetic complications.Epigenesis plays an important role in the manage ment of diabetes mellitus.Its reversibility provides new clues for the treatment and prevention of diabetic complications.
