Clinical Application of Laryngeal Endoscopic Surgery in the Treatment of Laryngeal Diseases

Abstract:ObjectiveTo determine the clinical application of laryngeal endoscopic surgery in the treatment of laryngeal diseases. MethodsFifty-five patients suffering from various laryngeal diseases including vocal polyp, vocal nodulus, vocal papilloma, vocal cyst, epiglottic cyst, laryngeal inflammatory pseudo-tumor, and laryngeal angioma were treated surgically with the laryngeal endoscope from STORZ company, and were followed up for 2 to 14 months. ResultsOf the 55 patients, phonation function returned to normal in 51 cases, and improved significantly in the other 4. Stroboscopic examination 1 month after the operation showed smooth vocal mucosa, normal mucosal wave, and satisfactory vocal cord movement and closure in all patients. ConclusionWith the wide, direct and distinct operation field of vision and good illuminance, laryngeal endoscopic surgery can remove the lesions precisely and thoroughly with minimal invasion. It can avoid the performance of laryngofission in patients suffering from laryngeal benign tumors, precarcinomatous lesions, laryngeal microinvasive carcinoma, and some other laryngeal diseases. This operation may have high practical value in clinical practice.
