Abstract:Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a devastating complication after arthroplasty and the predominant pathogen is staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus). However, it is undeniable that S. aureus often coexists with other microorganism around the infection sites. It has been reported that S. aureus may interact with other microbes such as coagulase negative staphylococci, pseudomonas aeruginosa, candida albicans, leading to an alternation of biofilm forming ability, antibiotic resistance and virulence expression pattern. This review summarized the impact of polymicrobial PJI on S. aureus pathogenesis. Key words: Staphylococcus aureus; Prosthesis-related infection; Coinfection
