Abstract:Objective To explore the safety and efficacy of flexible ureteroscopy with holmium laser 1ithotripsy assisted with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) for renal calculi less than 2 cm in solitary kidneys. Methods A total of 21 cases of renal calculi no more than 2 cm in solitary kidneys treated by flexible ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy in our department were retrospectively analyzed.KUB or CT had been performed before and after operation (1 month after) to as-sess the stone excretion rate.Residual stones were retreated by flexible ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy again or SWL if necessary. Results No severe complications such us sepsis and renal insufficiency were found. The primary stone-free rate was 76.2% (16 cases).Among 5 cases with residual stones,3 were treated by SWL and were completely stone-free,the others were re-treated by flexible ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy and 1 was stone-free.The overall stone excretion rate was 95.2%.The mean serum creatinine levels of before and after operation (one day after) of all 21 cases were (119.6 ± 11.9)μmol/L,and (124.8 ± 9.0)μmol/L,with no statistical difference. Conclusions Flexible ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy assisted with SWL showed considerable efficacy and safety, which could be recommended as a reliable opera-tion option for renal calculi no more than 2 cm in solitary kidneys.
