Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of degradable magnesium alloy plate on treatment of tibial fracture in New Zealand rabbits.Methods:36 adult New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into the magnesium alloy group and the titanium alloy group. Tibial fractures were fixed with magnesium alloy plate in the magnesium alloy group and titanium alloy plate in the titanium alloy group respectively. After operation, X-ray, pathology and immunohistochemistry were performed in each group to analyze the effect of magnesium alloy plate on treatment of tibial fracture in New Zealand rabbits. The comparison of means between the two groups was performed by t test. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:X-ray showed that the callus formation in the magnesium alloy group was more significant than that in the titanium alloy group. The result of hematoxylin and eosin (HE) stain showed that the callus formation in the magnesium alloy group was more significant than that in the titanium alloy group. The expression of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) in the local callus of the magnesium alloy group was more significant than that of the titanium alloy group. Hematological results showed that there was no significant difference in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) between the two groups before surgery [(27.17±6.7), (23.33±4.63) U/L, t=1.152, P>0.05], and no significant difference in ALT in the magnesium alloy group before and after surgery [(27.17±6.71), (27.67±6.35) U/L, t=-0.120, P>0.05]. There was no significant difference in CREA between the two groups before surgery [(122.83±11.07), (122.17±18.95) μmol/L, t=0.074, P>0.05], and there was no significant difference in CREA in the magnesium alloy group before and after surgery [(122.83±11.07), (126.67±10.76) μmol/L, t=-2.395, P>0.05]. Conclusion:Magnesium alloy plate can degrade gradually in the process of fracture healing and promote the formation of callus around fracture.
