The expression of transforming growth flactor-β and basic fibroblast growth factor in transversalis fascia of patients with inguinal hernia

Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of TGF-β and bFGF in the transversalis fascia of patients with primary inguinal hernia.Methods All samples were obtained from transversalis fascia of patients with original inguinal hernia(40 direct hernias;40 indirect hernias),and those from 20 volunteers without hernia disease served as controls.All samples were immunohistochemically labeled by antiTGF-β and anti-bFGF.Results The expression of TCF-β in direct hernias was focal or difluse but light,while it was diffuse and heavy in controls and indireet hernias.The expression of TGF-β in direct hernias was lower than that of controls(P＜0.05),but there was no statisticaUy significant difierence between indirect hernias and controls(P＞0.05).However,the expression of hFGF Was diffuse but light in all the three groups,and there Was no statistically significant difference between any of the groups(P＞0.05).Conclusion The lower expression of TGF-β weakens the transversalis fascia.and then influenees the development of direct hernia.but maybe it has nothing tO do with indireet hernia.The similar expression of bFCF suggests it has no relationship with inguinal hernia.
