Research Progress on the Relationship between Anticardiolipin Antibodies and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes

Abstract:Antiphospholipid antibodies are a group of antibodies with specificity for binding to negatively charged phospholipids on the cell surface, including anticardiolipin antibodies, lupus coagulation inhibitor and anti-beta 2-glycoprotein I antibodies. They can cause a series of characteristic clinical symptoms, which are referred to as antiphospholipid syndrome. There is an international consensus on the classification criteria for definite antiphospholipid syndrome. Numerous studies have shown that anticardiolipin antibodies are associated with several adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as infertility, abortion, stillbirth, preeclampsia, placental insufficiency and so on. But its pathogenic mechanism is not yet clear. However, some investigators believe that anticardiolipin antibodies are not the main cause of adverse pregnancy outcomes. This paper focuses on the association between anticardiolipin antibodies and adverse pregnancy outcomes. And it also suggests investigators to optimize the experimental design and diagnostic criteria for classification, hopes to obtain more authoritative results using to guide clinical practice.
