Abstract:Objective To investigate the dynamic changes of serum p53 antibody in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) after surgery,as well as the relationship between preoperative p53 antibody level and the degree of tumor differentiation. Methods Eighty-six cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma receiving radical resection were enrolled as the observation group and the degree of tumor differentiation was analyzed. The serum p53 antibody levels were examined one day preoperatively and 7 d,30 d,90 d,180 d postoperatively.Meanwhile,50 healthy subjects were included as the control group and their serum p53 antibody levels were tested accordingly. Results The serum levels of p53 antibody and its positive rates were all significantly higher in the observation group (P < 0.05).Moreover,as the degree of tumor differentiation increased, the p53 antibody levels and its positive rates were decreased (P < 0.05).Furthermore,in the observation group, the level of serum p53 antibody was significantly decreased at 30 d after operation, compared with those at 1 d before operation or 7 d after operation (P < 0.05).The levels of p53 antibody were further decreased at 90 d and 180 d after operation, and became comparable with the control group (P > 0.05).Conclusion Serum p53 antibody test can help to determine the degree of tumor differentiation of ESCC.Radical resection of esophageal cancer can inhibit the expression of p53 antibody in serum.
