Abstract:Objective To identify the essential factors involved in the health related quality of life(HRQoL) in patients with parkinson’s disease(PD).Methods The HRQoL in 97 patients with PD was estimated using unified parkinson's disease rating score II(UPDRS-II). Meanwhile, anxiety, depression, cognition and motor symptoms were evaluated by some methods, i.e. Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA), Hamilton depression scale(HAMD), mini-mental state examination(MMSE), UPDRS-I,UPDRS-III, Hoehn-Yahr scale. The factors, affected the quality of life in the patients, such as age, onset, gender, course, cumulative levodopa dose, symptom fluctuation as well as psychiatric symptom were also investigated. Results Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the main factors involved in the HRQoL in patients with PD were motor symptom(UPDRS-III), course of disease, depression(HAMD) and presence of psychiatric symptoms(UPDRS-I). These factors accounted for 78.4% of the variance of HRQoL scores. Conclusions The factors interfered with the HRQoL of parkinsonian patients are mental factors(HAMD) and physical factors(UPDRS-III). Therefore, it is very important to improve depression as well as alleviate motor symptoms during the treatment of PD. Rehabilitation and assistant appliance are also of value.
