A comparative study of Chinese idiom-N400 in patients with bipolar depressive disorder and first-episode depressive disorder

Abstract:Objective To explore the status of Chinese idiom-N400 in patients with bipolar depressive disorder and first-episode depressive disorder.Methods A total of 41 patients with bipolar depressive disorder in BPD group,43 patients with first episode depressive disorder in FED group,40 healthy people in control group were selected and assessed with 17-items Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD-17)and Chinese idiom-N400.Results There were significant differences for the congruent and incongruent latencies of all types of N 400 between three groups(P<0.05).The congruent and incongruent latencies of all types of N400 in FED group were significantly more than those in control group(P<0.05).The congruent and incongruent latencies of ending words with same pronunciation but different forms and meanings in BPD group were significantly more than those in control group(P<0.05).The congruent and incongruent latencies of ending words with different pronunciation,forms and meanings in BPD group were significantly less than those in FED group(P <0.05).There were significant differences for the congruent latencies of all types and the incongruent amplitudes ofending words with different forms,meanings of N400 between three groups (P<0.05).The congruent amplitudes of ending words with same pronunciation but different forms and meanings,with similar forms but different pronunciation and meanings,with same meanings but different pronunciation and forms of N 400 in BPD group and FED group were all significantly more than those in control group(P<0.05).The congruent amplitudes of ending words with different pronunciation,forms and meanings,the incongruent amplitudes of ending words with same pronunciation but different forms and meanings of N400 in BPD group were all significantly more than those in FED group(P<0.05).Conclusion There is abnormal for the function of language in the patients with bipolar depressive disorder and first -episode depressive disorder.
