Association between ADH1C gene polymorphism and alcohol dependence in Han males of Northern China

Abstract:Objective To study the association between alcohol dehydrogenase 1C (ADH1C) poly‐morphism and alcohol dependence in Han males of Northern China .Methods Sixty alcohol dependence cases who met the diagnostic criteria of DSM - Ⅳ and sixty controls ,who were all Han males from Northern China ,were involved in the study .The polymorphism of rs698 in ADH1C were measured in two groups . Comparisons of genotype and allele frequencies were made between two groups . Results There were 32 alcohol dependence patients with AA genotype ,27 patients with AG genotype and 1 patient with AA genotype ,while 27 controls with AA genotype ,30 controls with AG genotype and 3 controls with GG genotype .No significant differences were found in genotype and allele frequencies between two groups (P> 0 .05) .Conclusions Polymorphism of rs698 in ADH1C is not associated with alcohol dependence in Han males of Northern China .
