Abstract:Objective To identify the prevalence of genital chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infection among female sex workers (FSW) in China. Methods Electronic databases were searched for Chinese and English language original articles published from January 2006 to December 2015 that reported CT infection among FSW in China.Eligible studies were selected according to an established strategy.A meta-analysis was performed with the R software version 3.2.5.Results 14 articles were included in this meta-analysis.The pooled prevalence of CT infection among FSW in China was 16.39% (95%CI:12.78%-20.35%).The pooled prevalence of CT infection among FSW from high-tier venues,middle-tier venues and low-tier venues were 15.98% (95%CI:14.12%-17.94%),16.62% (95% CI:14.97%-18.33%) and 20.85% (95%CI:18.78%-23.00%),respectively.The positive rate tested by PCR methods was higher than that by antigen test, and the pooled prevalence were 20.84 % (95 % CI:17.48 %-24.41%)and 9.93% (95%CI:5.43%-15.56%),respectively.Conclusion The prevalence of CT infection among FSW in China was high, especially among FSW in low-tier sex work venues, implying that CT infection screening in related risk groups should be strengthened to detect infective sources, and effective measures should be implemented to stop the transmission of chlamydia trachomatis.
