Utilization of Traditional Chinese Medicines in the Treatment of 200 People Living with HIV/AIDS

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the variation of laboratory data and clinical symptoms for people living with HIV/AIDS in the treated with traditional Chinese medicines(TCM).Results (1) Variation of viral load:reduction of viral load more than 1log in 2 cases(1%) and 0.5log in 18cases(9%) after the treatment with traditional medicines. (2) Variation of CD+_4 count:among 129 cases with CD+_4 count over 200/μl,56 cases(43.4%) increased their CD+_4 count by more than 50/μl after the treatment.However,only six subjects (8.4%) in the group of CD+_4 less than 200/μl increased CD+_4 by more than 50/μl. In the meantime,more than 85% of people with HIV/AIDS improved their clinical syndrome after the treatment with traditional Chinese medicines.Conclusion (1) TCM can strengthen the immune system partly and improve the life quality of people with HIV/AIDS.However,traditional Chinese medicines prove to be relatively weak in inhibiting HIV.(2)The earlier people with HIV/AIDS use traditional Chinese medicines, the better effectiveness reveals.However,the effect will be poor if TCM are used in a later stage of the disease.
